Some results from the first round of Qualies.

  • Karlovic loses in straight sets, but Troicki wins.
  • Rafa slayer Rosol loses, but Roger slayer Stakhovsky wins.
  • Good Aussie Kokk loses in two cruel tie breakers, but Bad Aussie Tomic wins.

I really wanted the opposite to happen in each case. :(

All the three winners of the first round noted above (Stakhovsky, Troicky and Tomic) promptly lost in the second round.

No 4 Dominic Theim who has suffered a right wrist injury and looks in doubt for Wimbledon, there could be a change to the Top Ten in the mens seeding.Theim will learn later today if he can play.

You mean the " OK how much can we prop hometown boy Tim Henman to improve his chances" W seeding system.
OK, that is funny, but surely it even pre-dates Henman. Probably dates back to the Crusades. Same with the all-whites. (And likely same reason.)

Not sorry to see Tomic gone. I saw you were sorry to Stakhovsky through earlier. Why not wish for the one who beat your man to do well? If he does, it proves the his upset was justified. If he continues to do poorly, it's so much more of a one-off, isn't it? Personally, I'd rather have seen Rosol do well, rather than have been a one-hit-wonder. At least Soderling backed himself up, until he didn't.

I don't have anything against Stakhovsky. The reason that I was not particularly rooting for him is because he is not doing anything interesting and probably won't make life at Wimby interesting even if he gets through.

On the other hand Rosol kind of proved himself (not just the time he beat Ralph, even in the next year i think he met Ralph again, lost but held up) and might make some things interesting in the MD.

Hasse lost in the second round. The other three (Gulbis, Kudla, McDonald) won their 2nd round matches and one away from MD.

The Men's qualifying tourney is now completed.

Gulbis fails in the third round. Kudla and McDonald get through to the MD.

The lone Indian guy Ramanathan lost in the 3rd round with a fifth set score line of 11-9 (even in the qualifying in Wimbledon, the final round is a five set match).

Thiem will be out for several weeks,I guess now his goal is to defend his USO title..he has to wear a wrist splint for 5 weeks,he will also miss Hamburg and Gstaad.,sources say USO is unclear.
