I thought of that, but Shapo plays with too little margin. Hurts both. But it does do Novak's head in more than is strictly necessary, so there is that.
Agree, I did shout out to Denis after he lost the 3rd set,he had to play with more margins and play more percentage tennis
He actually listened and won the 4th set 6-1

I hope Denis plays well. If he can at least challenge Djokovic, he might make some noise at the US Open with hopefully another QF or beyond appearance. I think I’m going to go with Berrettini on the bottom half.

Please get him an earpiece to you. And you know what, I'm going to air an old grievance here. Old Cali has claimed forever that had Novak won the 3rd set v. Rafa in 2013 USO final, he'd have won that match, and that I don't know anything about sports psychology. And I always claimed that there are 5 sets available, and if you don't use them, that's on you. That 3rd set today v. KK was very tight and could surely have gone either way. But it went the way of Khachanov, at the last minute, more or less. Shapovalov could have crumbled after that, but he didn't, and he's the guy in the SFs. Good for him!

What was frustrating in Denis match he had soo many BPs in the match and could not convert them? he cannot afford to do that in his match against Novak,.
Oh please where Rafa is concerned with Cali,Rafa only won GS because his opponents had a bad day
Like in RG 2020 final where Novak had 50 odd UFE in a 3 set match he said to me was because Rafa makes his opponents make UFE LOL!!!!!!! and he can't hit winners.

Agreed. I will say that Novak let a fair number of BPs go begging today, but he still won in straights. Denis will have no such luxury v. Novak.

I know, right? Every excuse except the obvious. It's kind of cheap to mention him here, but I am just that sleazy tart. But there are 5 sets on offer to win a match, and claiming that someone "should" have won when they didn't use all of them is, IMO, risible. Shapo didn't lose heart after losing a tight 3rd. Anyway, I knew we'd enjoy a moment of schadenfreude on this, girlfriend. :smooch: :lulz1:

Sharpo doesn't have the game that can bother Novak..this may be just a glorified tennis lesson for the young Canadian..IMO

Alas. Hard not to think that this is the end, possibly his last Wimbledon...or maybe, at most, we get a swan song. All good things must end, of course.
I was busy with work today, but I know this was a tough day for Federer fans. I just wanted to say that. I mostly tuned in to hear the commies writing the obit, it seemed. I sincerely do hope this is not the end for Roger, particularly at Wimbledon. He has grown on me, over the years. Anyway, no crowing, no editorializing, just to say...it wasn't a great day for those of you who are my friends here, and I know that.

The only thing that bothers Novak is lobs ..his overhead smash has always been a bit of a weakness.
You are correct, Denis plays with too little margin. Novak is going to be a rooster in the hen house on Friday. Unless Novak wakes up with a stiff neck and back, it's gonna be e finita for Señor Denis

And the wind. And the chair umpire. And bad calls, as he perceives them. And looking up into the sun, and yes, smashing the ball straight into the net.

I have a great Swiss friend that lives in Brisbane and i had to console her on the phone after the match.I said to her lets put this into perspective,Roger has had 2 knee surgeries, little play in 2 years and still made the q/finals at Wimbledon at nearly age 40....not bad, though I know your very disappointed.

was hirkacz a cool customer or what?. not bothered by pro federer crowd, soft hands at net too, just turned 24, looks like if he can even out his erratic week to week form he could be a big plus for the game.

federer was a bit shit and i left that match after 2 sets so i messed the doughnut in the 3rd, a qf visit is good, i noticed he is now 40th in year to date rank charts..also his age in a few weeks.

federer could skip olympics with its strict covid bubble. and long way travel foe 1 event, playing usa will be better, with normal social situations returning maybe mirka can travel too.

Thanks! To be honest, I wasn't that bothered. I was slightly disappointed, but only for a few minutes. I didn't expect much. It was a tiny fraction of how I felt after 2019 Wimbledon...that really sucked and turned me off tennis for a few months. Probably my least favorite loss.

I totally get that. That one was hard even as an observer.

Here are the latest odds:

1. Novak 4/9 ~ 69.23%
2. Berretinit 9 ~ 10.00%
3. Hubi 29/3 ~ 6.45%
4. Shapo 35/2 ~ 5.41%

p.s. Due to various reasons not worth elaborating, they don't have to add up to 100.

Odds for the individual SF matches (they would need to add up to 100) are as follows:

The first semifinal: Novak 90% and Shapo 10%

The second semifinal: Matteo 68.75% and Hubi 31.25%
