Moral victory goes to Mannarino. Until he fell, for the most part of the match, he played better.

Federer through to the second round by retirement. He dodged a bullet today.
Tbh, I think Federer would have won anyway. Seemed to have got his mojo back in set 4 but winning in 5 sets if it had continued would've been a poor opening round anyway.

That was before he started playing better and got a decent lead in set 4.

I don't change my opinion though. Having seen the whole match (and the multitude of forehand errors including several wild shanks), I don't see any chance of him lifting the trophy. Most probably he would be ousted by Norrie in the 3rd round. Gasquet most probably will not have the audacity to beat Fed.
