At which major? This?
Good question. This is the easy pick, because it's the most volatile one, at least of late, but he's got HC chops and clay ones, let's not forget. He'll be on the short list for Oz. If it gets played.

thiem way better than Zverev and the stats show that leads 8-2 h2h and is a major champion, zverev never won a major LOL. so stats wise hes better and also serving return backhand, forehand movement ect.... everything basically thiem a more fitter than djokovic as well LOL.

Oh okay, so beating someone in a 5th set tiebreak now makes you “much better.” So is Federer “much better” than Nadal for beating him in the 5th set of the Australian Open final in 2017?

thiem should have won both hard court slams this season but still that a epic win he just was playing god level tennis which zverev could not get to.

I never thought Thiem’s first slam would be the US Open. I always thought it would be the Australian Open or at Roland Garros. Well we will see. Hopefully, he takes a nice rest and comes to make Paris interesting.
In the more than a few ways Thiem resembles Wawrinka, (IMO,) he's been a bit all over the map with his options for Major wins. Everyone was sure it would be RG, but you take your opportunities where you get them.

Overall, Thiem and Zverev were very even throughout the match. Zverev cracked at the typical key parts first time slammers do. No shame. He did well in his first slam.

NO thiem being a major champion by default makes him better and thats how most people will see it like this majors are the biggest things in tennis and if you have these titles that player[ thiem] is just better why do you think federer still at least in debate for goat. until zverev wins a major he will never be on thiem god tennis level by the way this match was close but thiem owns zverev h2h 8-2 so their series overall he owns zverev your just looking at one match then its clear thiem wins most of time and is doormat for me its not even close as well 4-0 in majors.

The bolded is a good point. While I disagree that they were even throughout the match, as Zverev was zoning and crushing Thiem in the first two sets, they did manage to even it out across the 5 sets. Zverev did blow a big chance, but not miserably.

Hey what a great competitive final we just witnessed. Sure it wasn't always pretty as the tournament was missing a lot of top players, the DJOKOVIC controversy and of course , no crowds because of co-vid 19. But the four finalists Osaka, Azarenka, Thiem and Zverev has finished the U.S. Open IN STYLE and I salute them. The mens final is a shame that there had to be a loser, i thought.

Especially those double faults in the tiebreak. I can only imagine how he felt after each one.

A shout-out to my town. NYC, against the odds, managed to hold a Slam, and it didn't collapse due to breakouts of COVID. It was a bit weird, but tennis was played and we got to enjoy it.

I will say Thiem has to start making adjustments if he wants cleaner slam results. Take a bit off your your first serve to get it in and stop trying to paint the lines if your ground game is off.

I know it is a short ask for him to go far at RG given the turn around time. I hope he can though. It will be interesting to see what winning a slam does for Thiem and his game.

He was talking of/to his parents. I think he was bitterly disappointed, which I think is a good sign. And I think there is something to be said for the stress of getting through this tournament in the pandemic bubble. Also, he's had to face some backlash on the internet over the summer. He was a bit overcome. That's OK.
