I think Zverev will improve it. It takes confidence and winning the big matches to start trusting yourself to do right by your game. It was a tough match for both guys. They both had zeroed out their ace count with the exact number of double faults. It’s a slam. You have to go for it and take risks if you want the reward.

I don’t think anyone has ever doubted Zverev’s skills. It’s been said that if someone was going to build the ideal tennis body it would be Alexander‘s. He has such easy power on that first serve when it’s cracking and the groundies, particularly the BH Are buttah. His game has “ the look” that tennis people notice right up. It’s technically very solid. While different it reminds me A bit of young Novak Who everyone could see his potential out the gate.

With Zverev the early success at Masters had him anointed the crown prince Of the atp for several years. So he’s had pressure of heavy expectations at a very young age.

With Zverev it’s all mental, Thus the serving yips. So far he’sSomething like 0-8 versus top 10 players at Majors.
That’s the hardest Or at least the most undefinable quantum Leap he needs to take. Novak did, but then again Novak was always much more consistent at a younger age than Zverev.
This year could be a breakthrough , but then again it’s the mental hurdle, and unlike technical issues, it’s the one thing hard to gauge or predict.

Just read this via Twitter,

ESPN's US Open ratings were down 45% for the whole event.
Women's final down 43%
Men's final down 48%
This is an interesting article on how the USTA and the tournament made out, on loss of ratings, etc. Also, mistakes that were made:

TBH comparison with Delpo is not fair, his is the one with a career of 'what could have been' if not marred by injuries, everytime he came back he has given people a run for their money. I do have a soft spot for him so you can say I am biased, but when he was on no one could stand his firepower
it is debate for sure del potro 2009 us open was amazing but in my opinion thiem is already better than del potro and roddick but of course respect anyone who thinks del porto is just as good like thiem because it is close right now.

It will be the small things that will set Thiem apart from them. If he can manage a stint at number 1, win another slam and collect some more Masters. Currently, Roddick has been number 1 and has more high profile tournaments on his roster than Thiem. I would say if he can increase his profile he can rise above Roddick for sure, doing more than Murray may be a tougher ask.

We will have to see what winning a slam does for Thiem’s game, but if you look at his record before I would say 2018 and after the difference is noticeable. He has been on the rise and I would dare say one of the most consistent players on tour aside from the Big 3. I hope he plays more freely getting the weight of winning a slam off his back. We will see if that weight returns trying to take one from the Big 3. I’ll give him a pass at this French Open even if it is where he has had his best results as the turnaround may be too much an ask. I will expect a great result at the AO though.
