2020 top 6

1. Medvedev
2. Nadal
3. Djokovic
4. Tsitsipas
5. Thiem
6. Federer

4/5/6 could go either way as could 2 or 3.

Medvedev lost in the first round of RG and the third round of Wimbledon — you think he’s going to improve that much across all surfaces to take down the big 3?

Recently I stated I believe he'll be number 1 after Wimbledon. Admittedly year end number one is a much tougher ask given his massive amount of points to defend in the latter half of the year but he under performed greatly at RG and Wimbledon. He also made the 4th round of the AO this year but next year I expect him to either be the winner or the finalist. Can't for 1 second see him not improving on the crap results at RG and Wimbledon tbh. He showed he's good on clay by reaching the Monte Carlo semis beating Djokovic en route and followed it up with a final in Barcelona the week after, beating Nishikori who is decent on clay and eventually losing to Thiem in the final. Having had those very good results it was a shock to see him lose in round 1 at RG. He then made the semis at Queens losing to Simon (ugh) which is a decent showing making the semis and, likewise, to then lose in the 3rd round of Wimbledon was disappointing. Highly likely he improves at the first 3 slams of the year. A lot of points to defend from Wimbledon onwards but it's gonna be an interesting year.

On a side note, Tsitsipas made the semis of the AO and I can't for the life of me see him repeating that. A loss before the 3rd or 4th round is likely imo.

I think that’s the crux, can’t see Medvedev making a legitimate run for YE #1 if he doesn’t do well at the AO on HC, arguably his best surface.

Agree that he could potentially improve on both red clay and grass, but in those surfaces he wouldn’t necessarily be as comfortable,; and new dynamics in 2020 he will be the hunted, with HUGE expectations on his shoulders.

"The Big Three" will remain the "Big 3."

I can't say I "LIKE" it, but see no reason why they shouldn't continue to reign supreme! Nadovic will win at least 3 of the 4 majors and a couple Masters each as they did this past season! Federer will do just enough to be a nuisance, but the upsets will occur more often with losing another step! There's a good chance he'll finally drop from the top 4 by YE's hopefully since he does have some tourneys to defend! Maybe Roger will step down after taking up another spot from someone who could be gaining experience playing Davis Cup and the Olympics! If he happens to qualify for the YEC, I'd think he'd allow an alternate to take his place! That would be a little too magnanimous for an ego the size of Federer's though! :nono:    :ptennis:

Good post and you're correct, an upset may occur, I feel it will be the hardcourt..I would say the U$ open is the most likely place.

Okay, I am officially a big 3 hater now. I hate them, and I specially hate all their fans. I will have so much fun seeing they win zero majors in 2020. Why? Because they will not be good enough. Slowly repeating:

They - will - not - be - good - enough.

I cannot way to see the excuses given to explain their losses to the likes of Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev and Berretini. They will also fall to unheralded names like, I don't know, Carreno Busta and Mannarino.

And then people will start to look for reasons for the sudden drop in form. They will find a lot of strange explanations for a phenomenon which will not occur, because there will be no sudden drop in form, just one or two more steps down the latter and that will be enough to make them lose around QF's. There will be a sudden spike in audience for some old matches in youtube.

And then someone will cry about the historical injustice of the big three being dethroned by this generation in particular -- their merit merely is to have the right age at the right time. Slowly but steadily people will start paying more attention to those guys than to the big three. And, seeing them lose time and again, at some point someone will question... maybe they were not that good after all. Maybe it was just all weak competition.

So unfair. But I won't care.

It will be so much fun.

The Big 3? What Big 3? Starting in 2020 it will be obvious that there's only the Big 1, and that's Rafa Nadal. Well, at least you'll get your wish that the Big 3 as we know will be over with the downfall of Federer & Djokovic and explosive next level rise of Rafa. It will just be the Big 1 or more specifically the Giant 1. :smooch: :bye:

great post by you with your genius high IQ mind, of course your right next gen are giving Djokovic-federer a really hard time some will happen next season while tennis god nadal owns next gen and is the best player in the world. also owns Djokovic at both [RG 6-1] [us open 2-1] and of course clay+majors 9-6 Federer wont even make it nadal at big events but if does nadal will flatten like a bug just like RG this season with a overall superior h2h its going to be a epic for nadal nobody will reach his god level tennis at his best.:yesyes:

Looks like Fed has no plans on stopping any time soon. He could be around for a few years more, not only for the next season. As long as he can win a few tournaments per year and have fun on tour, there is no reason to stop. Crowd seems to love him more than ever, cause they all probably think this might be the last time we see him play. He could still win that Wimbledon if his form peaks like it did this year.

Do you think he’s purposefully trying to pass Connors?

Why not? He's going to give up the TOP records of Majors & Masters' 1000 events to 2 other players more than likely! He has to devote his remaining time on tour extending his leads in other areas like consecutive Finals, SF, & QF runs, the number of tournaments won, with 20+ years of sustained excellence! :nono:     :ptennis:
