It's back on serve! Fed cooled off even with the high temps outside! Nole's striking the ball with abandon! Fed's secret practice paying off!

Yeah. I mean. Even if Fed comes out with this set. Just watching the rallies. Novak is just so solid. You wonder on every ball Fed hits if it'll be a wild shank or head straight for the net. But with Novak, from all over the court, in all sorts of positions, on the full stretch, he is barely missing and the quality of ball is just amazing. And the confidence he should get from that, from just not having to worry about it.... Or rather, in contrast with the confidence that Fed can't build in his shots, it should make a difference over the long haul.

Got a solid hold there for 6-5.

Just gotta wonder what happens when Novak settles down. And makes whatever adjustment he needs to make to deal with Fed going for his shots. And making his shots enough so far to get 2 breaks. But missing enough to get broken back. In addition to Djokovic's great play of course.

Commentators talking about how being hampered a bit can make the game plan real simple. Just go for it. Because you don't have much other choice. I think that sounds at least a bit right. From what we're watching.

Djokovic holds to force the tiebreak. And apparently Djokovic has won 15 of his last 16 tiebreaks.

I knew the match was over when Federer could not convert the three BP's to go 5x1 and a double break. And one of those he clearly "blew".

Well that was a deMORAlizing tiebreak for Fed. I mean. Oh my God Djokovic was so good. If that doesn't let Fed know what he's got to do to win and take the wind out of his sails, I don't know what will. But it will. I mean. How could it not. Hope I'm wrong. But I mean. When Djokovic need to, he broke him to love! Just like in that final set at Wimbledon, when Fed broke first, Djokovic just took it back (though it also felt like Fed gave it back) immediately with ease.

So Fed saves break points in his first service of the second set as well. But the fact that Novak keeps getting to 40-love and 40-15 on Fed's serve, simple does not bode well. You can't save all those break points every time.

The crowd vociferously rooting for Roger as usual! It's really getting to be obnoxious; esp. when they seem to applaud Nole's errors & DF's!

Djoker thrives on that anyway.

Better than almost no one cheering loudly in many other tournaments or matches ha. I like the atp or any other team cup atmosphere, especially later stages

Djokovic takes 2nd set 6-4...

Well Djokovic with the benefit of serving first and truly just brilliant. Finely breaks through to take the set. Will get to serve first again. Just. Does everything ... not perfect. But better than everyone else. So quick. So flexible. Makes the right adjustments. Makes mostly the right choices. Lets stuff get to him. But doesn't let it derail him. Moving with confidence out there.

When Nole's in "lockdown" mode, he's just hard to break thru! He runs for everything and invariably does something brilliant with his reply! :face-with-tears-of-joy:

lockdown my arse. It's counterpunching, don't know why one needs to beautify it with some fancy crap name. It's mechanical in nature, just like how Lendl used to treat JMac…..it is ugly and it damages tennis artistry.

are you a free match recorder? or just some kind of self appointed commentator for every game of the match?

And so that's all she wrote. Fed made his first set push. Djokovic weathered it. Adjusted. And destroyed him in the tiebreak. Fed wasn't able to break after that. Djokovic started serving like I thought he would in the first set. And Fed doesn't get a set.

Obviously wasn't fully healthy. But Federer won't make excuses so I won't make excuses. He got soundly beaten. Of course this is Djokovic's house. He's been beating Fed in Fed's house to where Fed can barely call it his house these days. Of course he beat him in Rod Laver Arena.

Fed just got behind the 8 ball this week. Just let 2 matches get out of hand and couldn't possibly be at his best tonight. Probably still would have lost even if he was though.

We'll see how Thiem or Zverev do against Djokovic. I'll be pulling for whoever it is. Even if it's Zverev. Eck!

Sorry but I really think you guys are seeing what you want to see. The final is the final, but if I am Zverev or Thiem, and I just saw that match, I would step in the court liking very much my chances.

I mean.... it's a thread for this match. I'm aware that some are asleep. Because I should be asleep. Obviously I don't do every game. But some may want to see some specifics of how the match went down. And I'm aware that it can be annoying. I don't claim to be perfect. I know I can be long winded. And I also don't claim to care if it bothers you.
