Goodness me his father is not doing Novak any favours by opening his mouth,he is just adding fuel to the fire,Novak is not a little boy anymore,he instigated this tour and did not listen to the health professionals regarding 'staying safe' and making certain the health protocals were put in place for this tour,he now has to take his 'medicine' dad okay.

And if any people should die from the pandemic. Should Djokovic and all those involved in staging this debacle, be held finacially accountable or no ? If not why ?

The players involved were invited to come on this tour, they knew of the pandemic that is global,a few of the players like Novak, who critised the protocols in place of the US Open,Theim and Zverev, who by the way tested negative, would have known I believe, that fans would pack the stadiums, generally no social distancing measures would be in place. The players knew that the WHO was stressing the implications of COVID-19,they are adults and can make their own choices, good or bad.,this turned out to be a bad choice. If any of the players,or people involved in this tour, who tested positive and happened to die, there could be lawsuits against the organizers, for their negligence of the procedures that should have been in place?the ATP cannot get involved because it was a private tour.Hopefully all the people who tested positive will make a full recovery,if they do not Novak has to live with that outcome for the rest of his life.

Just a wild guess, but I would think that the Balkans aren't as litigious friendly as the US, plus the tournament didn't technically violate any statues or regs in place. Hell, wasn't there a packed 18,000 attended football game around the same time, of which so far 5 footballers have tested positive?

As i said, for Djoker, he wouldn't accept vaccine, he will pass this virus. Naturally, no chemicals. After 2 weeks, he is free to train etc, without any psihycal pressure. Whose fault is almost no matter. Croatia was hiding true numbers like Spain, more because of tourism. They had almost none previous weeks, now they have dozens each day.

I am impressed how Anglo-Saxon media dislike him. Of course, it's not yours. But this "western" paranoia is really sick. Any German bought knive...you know, stabbing into the back !?

One could argue there is a global pandemic and Medical Health Professionals around the world have stressed the importance of 'social distancing' etc in this pandemic, which were not in place, which should have been in place to start with? one could argue the 'negligence involved with players, coaches contacting the virus,if the proper procedures were put in place in first instance they may not have tested positive. The organizers are at fault in this situation,it depends if there are any deaths,or if anyone wants to pursue this any further.

BTW Melbourne has had a 'second curve' the government let thousands of people attend marches last week, they now have to call in the army, they might have to close down the borders,it has become epic, again people not adhering to 'social distancing'.

my state South Australia leads the nation with no co-vid 19 cases in 23 days. Border remains closed here until 20 july i believe.

This is incredibly cheap, and Djokovic's dad is a notorious jerk. Someone mentioned on this thread, but there was a Serbian basketball player, Nikola Jokic at the tennis exho, and he was at a basketball exho, too, where another player tested positive, and Jokic has tested positive now, too. Just because Dimitrov was the guy that got sick first doesn't mean that he was the guy that brung it to the party. And it was a party, which Djokovic organized.

Besides Novak's dad, his coach and tournament director of the Croatian leg of the Adria Tour, Goran Ivanisovic has come out defending Novak. (I mean, of course he would.) But he said something about, well, in 20/20 hindsight we're all smart...except that there was plenty of opportunity and information for 20/20 foresight.

Chris, I think you're right that there's some macho element to all of this, and I mean that rather globally. Kind of "real men don't wear masks." (Which is actually a thing.) Or "real men laugh in the face of danger," or I don't know what. I have a hard time understanding why all of these guys felt like being cautious was not necessary/beneath them/too "girly." Novak asked them all to jump off a cliff together, and they were too butch to say no.
You bet there was an element of 'invincible macho' cultural self-image in the minds of all stupid actors of this circus, players in particular. The image I linked to tells 1000 words. And yes, the patriarchal cultures favouring so called "strong men", dominating throughout the world, are at fault. But let's not descend into this subject, although I can mention that if the world was largely matrimonial, a stupidity like Adria Tour would definitely not happen. Virus kills machoes and women alike, the only difference is machoes are more stupid to expose themselves than women do.

Dominic Thiem is perhaps being a bit too cavalier, even now.

From the article:

"We trusted the Serbian government's [coronavirus] rules, but we have been too optimistic. Our behavior was a mistake, we acted too euphorically. I am extremely sorry," he said.

But unlike Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Marin Cilic, who did not test positive and also issued statements, Thiem is not self-isolating. He has since played events in France and Austria, and said he has had five tests in 10 days, all negative.

Thiem will return for another weekend of competition at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in France, where he is scheduled to face David Goffin Saturday and Matteo Berrettini Sunday. He is also slated to play an event in Kitzbuhel in two weeks, followed by an exhibition in Germany.

He has apologized, but he's going all over Europe playing tennis, no isolation, even though he was clearly exposed to the virus. He's been tested a lot, but negative results are less reliable than positive ones. He could still be an asymptomatic or non-symptomatic carrier. It seems clear to me that he feels he has a hot hand right now, and he doesn't want to miss what is a solid shot at the USO. I hope he doesn't end up being Typhoid Mary, instead.

I hope all these guys which have got the virus have a good recovery but I've heard that even been an athletes and still young after two and even tree months they could still feeling more tired and some breathing problems, so we'll see how they will do and the consequences. Honesty, they weren't too smart, on the contrary they acted very dumb. Meanwhile Thiem is a very lucky guy but I'm very surprised that they don't keep him in quarantine , sometimes the symptoms are showing two or three weeks later ant if that could happen I hope anyone else won't be infected

"They" can't keep him in quarantine. There is no "they." Private exhibitions, private tournaments, no governing body. It's all personal choice.

Well, when I say “they” I’m referring to Mouratoglou or whoever are in charge with the Ultimate Tennis Showdown to protect the other players , it doesn’t matter how many tests Thiem has got, I can’t understand why “they” don’t have that personal choice, it’s no so hard

Well, apparently "they" are more interested in having a top player than in public health.

I see that but I hope later not hear any complain from any of them

I'm not so worried about the future complaining as the actual outbreaks of illness clusters.

I don't understand why so many around here don't like Thiem. What's not to like? And I don't think there was anything wrong in his comments, though I do have qualms about his actions.

I have never warm to him at all,he is very arrogant, especially in his press conferences, also his actions speak louder than words especially in this instance.

There's nothing wrong with Thiem. He is a warrior and is becoming a very special competitor. A lot of people didn't like Pete Sampras years ago because he was focused and wasn't trying to be a social butterfly like Agassi.
