Tough loss for Vondrousova. But just goes to show what I was talking about with this quarter. Your seeds are Svitolina, Vondrousova (now out), Sevastova, Pliskova and then Martic, Sakkari, and Kontaveit the lower seeds. Brengle will play Muchova. Huge opportunity for both women because the winner plays the winner of Watson/Kontaveit. One of those 4 women will be in the 4th round. Kontaveit seeded at 20. Muchova ranked at 68. Brengle at 85. And Watson at 122. Watson loves it here. Muchova on the upswing. Brengle just got lucky. But played great today. I'd say Kontaveit should come out it. But I mean. Watson could come up with the goods here on the grass. Or Kontaveit could be the woman to come out of this whole quarter alive.

Svitolina winning today. Probably won't keep it up. Has not had great success on grass. But if she can play well. This quarter is here for the taking. Especially if Pliskova gets upset early.
Now that I've spent three days mentioning this, Pliskova will finally be consistent and win the whole quarter and make the final. Maybe win the title. But again. Her quarter is theoretically the easiest. So that would actually make a little sense. Still. I don't know that I think she can win this thing.

Ahhhh! It grabbed the line. Puntintseva breaks with a drop shot. Called out. It was close. But didn't look in to me. But just grabbed the slightest bit of the line.

Osaka finding some hard hitting winners. Gets to deuce. And advantage. But Putintseva saves it and gets the hold. So impressive.

Osaka hits a backhand wide and Putintseva will serve for it. Gonna be a huge win for her. Major upset. Lost her #1 ranking. But still #2. Will be a great comeback if she can do it. But I don't see it. Putintseva just seems to have her number. Has played so well. Has chosen the right shots to make it difficult for Osaka to dominate and has caused Osaka to go for too much all day long.

Collins with match point. Serving for it. But Diyas saves it. Deuce.

Huge win for Putintseva. It only gets her to the second round. But it's another win over Osaka. At a slam. Biggest win of her career. Great day for her.

Tough couple months for Osaka. She'll find it again. I knew she didn't have the goods to win it on grass. Wasn't sure Putintseva could pull it off. Even though she's beaten her twice this year. For now Osaka the hard court player. May still be too good come the US Open. But we'll see.

Halep will relish this. But so will Keys and everyone else in this quarter. Kenin the seed left in this 16th. And just won Mallorca. Clearly likes the grass. She'll relish the increased opportunity to make the quarters or further.

Collins finished off Diyas.

Really hope you saw the match because she almost gave up from the begining of second set

I disagree. But whatever. The commentators kept taking about Putintseva hitting the high ball at Osaka and Osaka just completely unable to figure out what to do with it. Seems to be how Putintseva has beaten Osaka 3 times this year now. Her backhand was great today as well. Osaka just flummoxed. And tried to come in and win at the net. Worked a little. But wasn't enough. Just not there yet on grass. May get there. But not this year.

Osaka just walked out of her press conference, saying she was about to cry.

AHhhh! She's so GOOD! Venus kept it close after the break. But Gauff takes the set. Wins her first set at Wimbledon against the 5 time champ. Well we know Venus can either fight this thing to the death or lose 6-2. Should be a good one.

Meanwhile Sorribes Tormo is up a double break on Wozniacki. Wasn't sure she had what it takes. But it looks like so far she's up to the task. Woznaicki just not the player she was.

Out there right now Tomljanovic deals with Kasatkina. Not surprising. Kasatkina has not been good in a while. Full blown slump.

Vika up a break.

Hsieh breaks Ostapenko again to take the set. Disappointing from Ostapenko. Can really play so well on the grass that I would love to see her rein it in. But. Hsieh so crafty and strong enough to at least get the ball back in play and Ostapenko not good enough to keep it going. Hsieh puts so much work on her ball as well. And I'm not a huge Ostapenko fan. I just have said I think she can be really solid on grass so I'd like to be right.

Gauff breaks Venus to love. But a couple of doubles from Venus. Venus nearly out of this thing to the 15 year old.

Just got in from work.... as I predicated I am not surprised that Osaka lost,Yulia seems to have her number, she now leads 3-0, did defeat her recently in straight sets on grass at Birmingham.

Could be and Osaka is not herself lately ever since she split with Bajin and living up to expectations. She will probably continue winning slams within a next few, but she needs to digest first all the sudden success she's had.

Talking of seeds going down I think Ostapenko could beat Hsieh and Rogers can beat Kontaveit.

Just got back in from work, agree she has let the split with Bajin interfere with her on court play, though remember she was the one to let him go.

Osta has alot of points to defend. Her ranking will tumble even further if she goes out today
