Berdych definitely not the player he was. Even before the injury. But definitely doesn't have the momentum back after the injury to even be top 20. But this has still been really impressive from Fritz today. For all the people talking about Zverev and Tsitsipas playing every week and that being bad for them. Fritz has been playing nearly every week since the South American clay court swing. It got him some ok clay results and he did so well in Eastbourne and now has a break point for 4-0 in the third set here, up 2 sets to love against a former Wimbledon finalist.

British wildcard Clarke takes down Rubin. Rubin qualified. Has not had a good career. But is a former boys Wimbledon champ. Good win for Clarke. Too bad he gets Fed next.

Don't be, if you actually placed those bets upsets would never happen.

That's SO TRUE though isn't it. That's how we think though. We can be defeatist. But it's a good counterpoint to the side of us that is too optimistic. Because my plan was to place bets on Fabbiano and Vesely and Kohlschreiber and Lorenzi (vs Medvedeve). The last two was just because the lines were so big. I did intend to put bigger bets on Fabbiano and Vesely. But I still would have lost my other two bets. I however would have made money on Putintseva over Osaka as well. Though less. Because that line was never very much against Putintseva. Still. I would have made a profit. I had it all planned out. And I'd be smart about it. But I also accept that a few wins can then make one cocky and cause one to make more risky bets and get all caught up in it and lose any money made. And I am not even remotely interested in becoming a gambling addict.

They're not showing Nadal at all...trying to get me to cough up $ for ESPN+, even though they let me watch Fed for free today. (How do they know? Lol.) After a slow start, he seems to have righted the ship well enough.

Well he didn't play a tuneup so maybe those first few games were a warm-up

For sure. Plus, they all talk about nerves in the first round. Fed started lackluster, then found his game.

Did not see Berankis coming today. I gave up on him YEARS ago. But he's feeling good today. These youngsters lose more because they don't have that aura that the Big 3 have. But also because they're not as good yet.

But in this instance, Shapovalov has certainly been struggling. I just thought he was gonna get a break to be able to play himself into the tournament. I guess Berankis had other ideas. And Shapovalov is probably just completely lacking in confidence right now.

Crazy Kyrgios survives to play Nadal in the second round. For Fed fans, that’s one of the most compelling matches of the tournament.

Looks like a forgotten Rublev decided to find his A game against Garin and fuck up some more draw picks :nono: Still an open match, now beginning of 4th set.

Ugh, I had not only one but two Chileans going deep, my choices to be the surprises of the tournament. And they were not even my most stupid mistakes!!! Luckily I like Rublev a lot...
