I saw his name in a bracket a few weeks back and I had to look him up. Never heard the name until then.

I think I've only seen him once. He's had a great run on the Challenger circuit though. Mostly last year. But a little this year as well. He's not a small person. So he has that going for him.

I guess so. He’s two points from winning the first set.

When’s the last time Roger lost at a major in the first round? Was it here, in 2002?

Poor set by his standards by Roger and loses the opener set.

WTF? I haven’t been watching, but how did Roger go down 2-5 to this guy I’ve never even seen play before?
I heard of this guy before, but only as a name on livescores. First time watching him too. He routinely took this set.

The guys you never played are sometimes the most dangerous ones. Fed will probably cruise once he gets a first break, but until then I see a struggle.

Then you do not read consistently my new career high rankings. Harris showed up on my updates several times in the bottom of the top 100.

Oh God, Fed lost a set to an unknown guy.

Did not even see it as I took it for granted. Now tuning in to Fed's match.

Roger winning 53% of first serve points. Is he serving underhand?

100% seconded!

if they end up doing it, it's entirely because they want to dumb down the sport. Yes some can say that on court coaching is rampant, but I'm sorry... why do some of the women who clearly benefit from coaching on the tour fail so miserably perform in slams? It's fairly clear that their problem solving skills are deficient. It would be a horror show in my opinion if this was done for men. And I don't think it's a good thing that the WTA unilaterally went ahead and did this for the women. It's just an awful look to me, for the world's premier female sporting organisation

I'd place a year's salary that Nadal, Federer and Djokovic would still win every major despite any rule change that they choose to implement. A coach can literally be allowed to yell in an opponent's ear and they'd still win. It's OK to be against on court coaching but you guys (except mrzz) are blowing it so out of proportion it's pretty nuts.

But that is precisely why I like the fact that there is no coaching in tennis: because, specially when you factor in the peculiarities of the game, it is so unique. It is an extremely hard task to manage yourself alone in court, and that is why I like the non-coaching rule. I get that this probably will cease to exist one day, but I will lament it. I really don't care if other sports have coaching -- actually I get sick of the constant cross-sport analogies. In general, they just divert the point and do not help one bit. But I concede it is a matter of taste. It is not "absurd" to have on court coaching. It is a choice -- that I would never make. It is simply way, way, waaaaaaay harder without a coach.

That's a different issue and I don't have much to disagree with. I think it's perfectly fine if on court coaching remains illegal but acting like allowing it sets some insane/laughable precedent that would affect matches significantly is ludicrous.

So Fed gets his break because he made the guy play one more shot. Cannot believe that guy missed that. I mean. I can. It's not shocking. He's on a stage he's never been at. But. That was a horrible miss.

Even at Halle he struggled with his serve. He could hardly hold serve against Batista and Tsonga.

So Fed on the board with a set. With the Fed special with that last service game. Holds to love.

Big tall young man, who lacks consistency as well as experience. It should not be a problem for Roger once he gets his mojo going.

I don't think it is insane and laughable, but I really think it would indeed affect matches a lot of matches. Just don't ask me exactly what "a lot" means...

His serve is normal for a male player. But not great. And not even necessarily on par with the other 6'5" guys. Held there to start the third. But Fed just missed makable returns. It's definitely not an imposing serve. Fed with another love hold, even quicker this time.

Commie said he hasn't ever won a match on grass at any level. I don't think he'll give Roger much trouble going forward here.
