It's a big stretch not to call golf a "sport." Golf is a pretty big deal. And if you ever watched it, you'd realize that they go out in couples, which change based on the rounds, to put the best together, in the way of seedings in tennis. So that they are playing next to each other, and by round, the most competitive are increasingly playing together in a pair. While they don't hit the ball "at" each other, they are standing together facing the stress of the other's fine or poor hits or lies. And they know where each other stands, in terms of par on each hole, and the standings. So you are wrong, I think, to say that it's just a bunch of golfers playing the course against par. They really do play against each other in the big moments. You really should watch one of the last rounds of a golf Major. Then you'd get it better.

And Arnold Palmer was one of the best ever at playing golf—he was not an iced tea!

Why is he fake? Cause of the Russian last name?

I don't despise Zverev. He lacks a bit of personality, but he can't help it. Happy to see others win over him though.
He lives in the diaspora. He is a Russian, mentality-parents-name-last name , everything except his birth place. Girl friend, Russian community in Germany and so on. If his personality was another I would like him.

I am also puzzled by his loss as Herios said, but yeah, clearly some nerves there combined with a drop in form. Clay season he played took some toll and the transfer from clay to grass not smooth either. Lack of matches on grass too, as tented pointed out. But still against Fabbiano, no one saw this coming. Karlovic maybe, but not the italian.
What about that he just is overrated at this point?

That isn't always the case! There are plenty of pros from the past and today with all kinds of ability, but something in their head holds them back! The elites are the elites because they've found a balance of ability and confidence/ego to take them to their heights! More than any other sport since there are so many things we have to calibrate in making decisions; sometimes it overwhelms some players! They all have to be good to be in the top 100, but everyone can't reach the heights of Fedalovic no matter how well they strike the ball! :cuckoo::rolleyes:

Being behind in the major count, Nole needs it more and I've already stated my position dealing with Fedal! They're almost done IMO and won't be missed by me! For now, they should just play, stop kvetchin', or leave the tour! The whining I'm referring to is coming from their loyal fanbase and delusional following! At this time I don't care about the age discrepancies or being the favorite on a certain surface! It'll all be about the record-book which Fedalovic OWN now, lock, stock, & barrel! Superlatives are still held by ATG's like Borg, Laver, Budge, Tilden, & even Connors, but the rest is being divvied up amongst the "Big 3" right now! No one in the future will care after glancing briefly at record-books with their names emblazed in just about every category if things hold as they seem right now! Like I've said, they've ruled the tour like no other group of players in the past! It's hard seeing any of the current crop being able to excel that much; maybe get to #1, win a few majors, but it's doubtful anyone will touch Nole's 2011 & 2015 seasonal records! I can't point out Federer 3 best seasons since he was literally owned by another player! Nadal's just the clay King so his 2008, '10, & '13 are undercut! Djokovic is behind significantly at the moment, but I really think he has time to catch them! END RANT! :nono:  :banghead: :cuckoo:   :ptennis:

It is indeed crazy. Yes, of course, there is coaching available during the game in football, basketball etc. But, they are team sports. Show me a single individual sport in which mid-match coaching is available. I can't think of any at least off the top of my head. What next? Should we allow a chess player to consult a coach during the game? Is there mid-match coaching available in table-tennis? I don't think so, if you want an example from a sport that is not completely mental.

In individual sports, it is generally expected that one does everything oneself during the match, while one may avail all sorts of coaching and help outside the match.

Boxing. MMA. Wrestling. Golf (you communicate with your caddie). Table tennis. Etc...etc..etc...

Next question.

PS: Please start informing yourself on these topics you feel so strongly about.

PPS: the chess analogy is insane. Chess is a concrete game. In many positions, there's a move that flat out wins or gives you a huuuuuge (theoretically insurmountable) advantage. If a coach points it out to you (and that's not even getting into the whole chess computers thing) they're literally deciding the result of the game on the spot. Buuuut, just for your information, in the old days, before the rise of chess engines, chess games would be adjourned to the next day after a certain number of moves and players would spend the night analyzing the position with their coaches/fellow players, etc... before play resumed the next day.

So yes, to piggy back on this point, nothing about this is crazy or out of the ordinary. It would be in line with most other sports, and, for the purposes of tennis, honestly wouldn't have huge effects on matches as A) players are being coached ALL THE FUCKING TIME from the players' box (go read what Boris Becker said about how he coaches Djokovic during matches) and B) there typically isn't some mysterious strategy that a coach will figure out to turn a match around. Beyond some encouraging words and some tactical pointers (which might make a difference, don't get me wrong), that's really about it.

To say that this is crazy implies coaches will typically decipher a game plan on the spot that the player otherwise can't and influence the outcome of the match when that clearly isn't the case most of the time.

Although realistically I know it will probably be 1 of those 3 players who will win as a patriotic Brit I want a Brit to win. I know it doesn't happen very often but it does happen sometimes.

He certainly has to work on his grass game, but I would have to go with @Fiero425 reply here. It is a setback on his journey and he probably needs some more time to find the proper balance that makes a difference between the great players and the rest. I am sure he will learn from this loss. As every great player says you learn more from the losses than the wins.

Did Kyrgios just break Thompson in the first set after he was a break down?

Kyrgios saved SP in that first set, before breaking back.
Now he is a break down in the second set.
