So, in the battle of Big-3 vs. Next Gen, the score is 3-0 in the third round.

Enjoying Novak’s returning :)
Novak is doing fine, but he's mostly just managing another's self-immolation. Nothing against Novak, but it's like watching a Great Dane stand there while a Jack Russell just runs around him pointlessly and wears himself out.

Then he goes for the pointless tweener, and loses, anyway. SMH.

Shapo is not putting enough balls back in play (while returning). That is the first problem.

Hehe well it’s a little more than that. I’m happy with what I am seeing in any event.

Shapo has no game plan, that is first problem. The second is that he can't find the lines.

The sun was bothering Novak?

He actually said that they'd turned on the lights in the stadium. Not to mention, but this has to do with roofs, and I think it's worth a conversation. I am going to start a thread.

Code violation to Djokovic for yammering at the crowd I think. Wow, then the DF to get broken and the classic sarcastic "thumbs up." Rather a turnaround. This is 2017 Djokovic now. Some turnaround.

Got rather dramatic all of a sudden.

So what was going on exactly?

Rather poor implosion by Novak. Lost 5 games in a row.

Daniil Medvedev is one set away from reaching his first ever Round of 16. He is playing well right now!

I have high hopes for him. Not Zverev/Tsitsipas high, but I think he could be a big title winner ala Khachanov, maybe more.

I actually didn't see if he was having something with the crowd, but it wasn't time violation, it was code violation, and it had to do with his back-and-forth with the crowd. Then there was the issue with the lights. Then he carried it into losing the set. Surprising.

The upside is hard to evaluate. You need to take in consideration that in time, things will change, because some players will develop, will get stronger, will put in the work in the gym to get more force behind their strokes.

Right, of course. Upside is essentially the same as potential - it doesn't always actualize. De Minaur could have a better career, even if he is (I think) less talented. In the same sense that a Borna Coric might have a better career than Nick Kyrgios, although I would say Kyrgios has greater upside. Or think of how many Slamless players were more talented (higher upside) than some of the one-Slam wonders out there (e.g. Rios or Nalbandian vs Johansson or Gaudio).
