Hopefully Shapovalov match is more competitive than De Minaur’s last night
Shapo is such a work-in-progress. He's been on the big stage longer than de Miñaur, but his game is so unruly and wild. I don't think he'll stand up to Djokovic, but who knows how much trouble he can cause. Denis the Menace.

Shapo has considerably more upside than De Minaur, I think, but I'm somewhat worried about his lack of (or very slow) progress over the last year.

Denis is a half full, half empty glass depending on your perspective.

He’s climbed to top 30 but when he first burst on the scene there were so many predictions he was THE next one.

Seems a tad undisciplined on the court to get to the top, but still he’s so young.

He needs a few years to nature, then we will see if he is as good as many predicted. I am not seeing him yet such a big future champion.

The upside is hard to evaluate. You need to take in consideration that in time, things will change, because some players will develop, will get stronger, will put in the work in the gym to get more force behind their strokes.

I am very curious to see a potential Djokovic-Medvedev Round of 16 match. I want to see if Medvedev can make Djokovic for a little bit.

A tad? I think he's wildly undisciplined.

Shapo is all flash, then donation. He needs a good coach. There's a lot of talent there, but it's unbridled.

I was just checking out his coach - Martin Laurendeau. He used to be Canada's Davis Cup captain and worked as the Tennis Canada National Coach.

Djokovic isn't even really doing anything here. He's just watching Shapo perform, or not. Commies just said he looked a bit bored. It's down on Shapo if he wants to stop being just a trained monkey. P-Mac just said there's no game plan at all. "He's just out there hitting shots."

Yep, reactive and instinctive without strategy or any go-to patterns... reminds me of Dolgo in that respect (albeit with a totally different game and style).

I get the Dolgo point, but at least some of Dolgo's shots have shape. This is a total slap-fest. I can't believe that he ever beat Nadal. I saw him live at the USO v. PCB, and I have to say, I think he may have regressed. If anything, I see less discipline in his tennis. They just said: 8 winners to 23 UFEs. If you're going to be that wild, there have to be more winners.

Edit: While I was posting that, he did hit a great winner. But lost the game, anyway.

Just watched some De Minaur - Nadal. I actually thought De Minaur was playing well. Nadal just looked unbeatable. Novak on the other hand looks very beatable. He should be crushing a terrible Shapovalov. Federer gets the third and most advanced of the young trio tomorrow.

Enjoying Novak’s returning :)
