And until the SF Novak's road us us tougher.

They have to get to that stage first .
You're not usually this obtuse, but I'm not clear about your point.

Helluva win from Nishikori. My first view of the new TB. I like the longer version.

I think the way the 5th set in every slam should be kept this way for a long time.

AO - super tiebreaker
RG - no tiebreaker (makes sense because you easily break an opponent serve)
Wimbledon - a tiebreaker after 12-12
US Open - a regular final set tiebreaker

All of them are unique in their own way

You don't think they should be uniform, then. I'm not sure I agree. At the very least the USO should adopt the longer TB.

Advantage Raonic over Wawrinka with the roof closed. I think we need to have a conversation about rules governing the roof.

I agree that it is nice to be unique. However, I hate the long tie breaks. I believe AO should have used regular tie breaker at 9-9.

The reason I do not think it should be uniform because it can add to the drama and players can think different strategies just in case they will have to go to a fifth set tie breaker. Also, before this year, 3 out of the 4 slams were uniform so I think this is a nice change of pace for every single slam.

Pretty much the best point I've ever seen Raonic play to break back on Stan.

THRILLED to see Kei come through tonight (today)! Karlovic played FANTASTIC. All credit to him. I mean. He's almost FORTY! But for him to fight like that. And serve that well (per the usual) and Kei to win the two tiebreaks they played. Just awesome to see him come through. Wasn't here last year after the injury at the end of 2017. All the points he gets here are just upping his ranking (assuming Cilic doesn't return to the final he's almost certainly gonna rise a spot anyways.) Just hoping he can stay healthy and contend for slam titles again (it's been a while). He's lucky to be here today though. Was probably gonna lose that first round match. But, heaven knows he's been the guy having to retire enough. He deserves to be the one who gets the benefit of a retirement for once.

Coric finished off Fucsovics. So glad to see him finally making headway. Heck. I'm just glad to see him win a match here. These are his first. Which. Is mildly shocking. Just. He's just been so frustrating to watch. Way too good to have some of the losses he does. But, kinda starting to live up to his potential. Got a ways to go. But hoping it starts here this year. Looking for a deep run from him here. He lucked out with his draw this time. For once (he's had some tough first round opponents at all the majors in his young career. But also some not so tough ones he should have won.) Donskoy/Krajinovic is definitely winnable (though I'm sure he could find a way to lose it as well. Krajinovic certainly ain't no pushover.) And then a possible match up with Thiem (or Pouille/Marterer/Popyrin). Definitely hoping to see that. Because I want to see Thiem get that far as well. Big fan of both these guys. Thiem up 3-1 in the h2h. But Coric won the first match. Last two matches (including the end of last year in Paris) were very close. And two of the losses were on clay where Thiem is definitely one of the best in the world. Plus this would be their first grand slam encounter. Anyways. Definitely ahead of myself here.

Raonic finished off Wawrinka in 4 TB's! Stan looks to be back, but still inexplicably makes errors when in the driver's seat closing out a set! Very impressive by Milos just hanging in there when down a break in that 4th set! :yesyes: :p

Also impressed and surprised to see Raonic bring it back to a tiebreak after being down 5-2! He's back I guess we can say. That may not mean he's top ten again anymore. But he beats the former champ. Makes the third round here again. Which must feel great after a tough year or two. And Wawrinka's comeback continues to stall. He's just not getting back to the top of his game. He either hasn't found the power or the feel or maybe it's just confidence he needs. Though it's not like he ever became a paragon of consistency. Was still always a bit boom or bust. But I'm betting he gets "it" back. Though he does not have the advantage of youth to find it. Needs to find whatever he needs soon. Would love to see him contending for slams again. Not because I'm a huge fan of his or anything. Though I do like him. Just... he was able to get in there and challenge for titles. Challenge Novak at the top of his game no less. And ya hate to see that just ... poof because of an injury.

I think I am always gonna feel bad for Goffin. Like... he's got game. And he's speedy. Not necessarily the most fun to watch. But I'm a fan. But he's just so small. Like, against the vast majority of folks he's good enough. Hence the top 10 and 20. But Copil right now just has the extra umph. Of course, Copil has found another level the last year or so and may be seeded here in the next couple of slams. So Goffin isn't playing some also ran. But he's still no top 10 player. And Goffin just... even if he comes back to win. It's gonna be a struggle. He just doesn't have that extra power boost. Which on the one hand it's like, he's gotten as far as he has without it and that's awesome. Kudos to him. He's hit above his station. On the other hand it just feels completely unfair. Even though that's dumb. It just... is. It is what it is.

Idk. Poor guy. (I mean. You can't feel too bad for him because ya know, he's not poor financially. And his stress level should be pretty low. He makes a million or hundreds of thousands a year to hit a ball around.)

Watched Alex Bolt prevail in a five set battle versus Gilles Simon. The way he finished the match was gutsy stuff as he went for his shots and did not get at all tentative. It was great to watch. With Bolt and Alex De Minaur doing well, who needs "the terrible two" representing Australia in the Davis Cup - Tomic and Kyrigos.
