Diego Schwartzman has won the 2019 US Open Sportsmanship award along with Naomi Osaka.
They’re handing out awards before the tournament has even ended?

If they can give Heisman award and various other awards before the bowl week, what is wrong with this? At least, this is only sportsmanship awards. Both recipients are fully worth of the awards, IMO.
What if someone does something which clearly exceeds what has already happened? Do you give a pre- and post-tournament award?
The people left are generally contenders for anti-sportsman awards and so nothing will change in couple more games.
But, in general I agree that it is best to wait until everything is over.
One of the best displays of sportswomanship recently was Andreescu in the Rogers Cup final, when she went over to Serena after the retirement, and tried to make her feel better. If such a reward had been given out before the SFs, this would have been missed — and inappropriately so.
I was confining to ATP mostly since it was posted in this thread.
The Colombian team Cabal/Farah won the doubles, beating Granollers/Zeballos, 6-4, 7-5
Sheesshhh, The US used to at least win in dubs! None of our teams even made the semi's of our Nat'l Championship! Wow; $uck$!
