It's tough, really really tough to take something positive from this defeat. I think if Nadal wasn't in it then the severity of the loss wouldn't be as much even though it would've still hurt because he was the firm favourite to win and maybe blew his last opportunity to win a slam. Then blowing a 2 sets to love lead to Kandy is too unthinkable. Ok I can understand if it's Cilic or some new big hitter he's never played but this is a guy who he's played before and it's not like Kandy can put on some performance like Tsonga did in 2011. Kandy was insanely lucky, he hit so many lines, ridiculous how he got out so many 0-30 games and BPs. Just unthinkable really.
It's just shocking, overwhelming to put this loss into perspective. The consequences are potentially legacy defining. Besides the disastrous consequences, it feels like Fed was struck by a tsunami. I just don't know how he'll get up from this, he has to but I wonder if he'll ever be clutch again. In some ways this feels worse than Wim 16 SF exit even because Fed may have hit his ceiling ie he just cannot play any better because the age is really showing. He may have squeezed out his last slams.
