Let us hope that pony has enough left in the tank to expose mowgli on grass.

Roger had a tough time breaking anyone for many years and his play all around was awful that match. He'd have only had more problems breaking if the grass was slick. Big servers are succeeding because their serves are still untouchable and on the other side they are able to tee off on returns since it is so much easier to return the average serve. The number of breaks we've seen so far has been crazy, I'd love to see the % of games held and compare it to other tournaments if that stat is anywhere.

Now you're just being stubborn. Listen to the interview. The best tennis player in history is explaining, scientifically, why the surface favors big servers (he said big, not tall, and specifically referenced the Roddick match) and you're still on your agenda...

I think you've missed/misunderstood the thread of this conversation... :)
No, I didn't. I understood what was being said perfectly. I was just thinking about the future & the fact that he will have to retire some day but if he teaches his children how to play, they enjoy it & are good at it they might take his place in years to come. :0)

No, she's just taken it to its next logical step: he could just retire already and raise his future champions. :D
You understood me perfectly. That's exactly what I meant. Thank you very much. :0)

I will listen to it later as I'm at work. But there is absolutely no reason the big serve of a guy with average height is harder to return on a high bouncing court compared to a low one. With the trees it is different because of their height as their serves bounce a lot higher due to the trajectory.

I cannot think of a more boring match to watch than Raonic/Isner.. Geez what a snooze fest. If I had to root for one of them Isner I guess purely because he's an American. Nadal seems to have DelPo's # these days so have to go with him there and Djokovic is looking like he's ready to take on Nadal in the sem's. Yes I think Fed moves on to face Isner in the semi's..

so what was your understanding?
I understood that people were arguing about whether Roger Federer was still as competent & doing as good a job since he had children as he was before he had them & whether his children were a good influence on his concentration at work & the endeavour he put into his work or not. I also have to give consideration to the fact that in the past & way earlier in this conversation too, contemplation has been given to the fact that he's not as young as he was & age has to be taken into consideration when coming up with the conclusions we come up with. (People may think I don't pay attention & don't remember what has been said but it's not true. I remember almost everything & pay attention more than anyone realises. People also think that because I'm unique & see things differently that I don't always get their point which is also untrue. Sometimes I like to see things differently for the sake of it & actually see things in all ways they can be seen. I have had people who've said something to me just to see what I'd say. I sometimes do that. I like playing with words & being ambiguous sometimes.)

He's not going to retire with Nadal trying to chase down his record and make his career look weak. People always underestimate that aspect. His legacy is on the line and for these egomaniac athletes that is a huge deal, in fact it is the biggest consideration there is.

I understand that. It's really nothing to do with anyone else when he retires. It's his decision at the end of the day. I hope he carries on while he can still go on. (My points were misinterpreted a little. I wasn't meaning that I thought he should retire. I don't. I think he should carry on while he enjoys it & still can. My point was that he will have to retire some day & someone else will have to take his place.) While he's still fit, like he is, he still has the option to carry on & it's nothing to do with anyone else what he does. I get your point. He thinks his reputation is on the line so he has to prove himself though he's more than proved himself. Anyone else in the same position would be the same. He enjoys what he does & if you enjoy what you do, you don't want to quit.

Well, he has no choice. He didn't realize that when he had the chance to get to 25. What was he thinking in all those US open losses, let alone 2009, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15 even in 2017? Time is on Nadal's side and he can win RG sipping beer. Heck RN can take an year off and still win an RG. He plays with house money rest of the year.

Oh, FFS, nothing is going to make Roger's career look "weak."

Surely he was thinking: "why should I bother to try to win? No one will ever catch me, anyway." Or, perhaps he just got beat even though he was trying. B-)

If so, then none of us is unique having the shared characteristic of being unique.
Very true. I guess to answer someone who's being pedantic we could say that we're all the same in some ways though we're all unique in others. We all have our differences from some people & similarities to others in different ways.

Bullshit, multiple people will over the next 100+ years, that is reality. Records are made to be broken. The key is keeping his rival at bay otherwise what has he done aside from make a ton of money? Not that that's bad as money is extremely important of course, but he's going for way more than that at this stage.

I see both points. I guess 'weak' wasn't the right wording but perhaps you can look at it as 'did you have a challenged GOAT status or unchallenged GOAT status'.
Serena can retire tomorrow and will be the unchallenged GOAT as there's no one breathing down her neck and there won't be for a WHILE. Roger, in a way is driven to keep competing 1. because he loves the game. 2. every GOAT wants to be unchallenged and Rafa is too close for comfort. Just my opinion.

And people don't revere Rod Laver, even though much of what he did has been surpassed? Bjorn Borg? I think Golds Girl has it right. "Weak" was the wrong word. You want him to stay ahead of Rafa in all things. And stretch his lead far enough not to see most of it broken for some time. That's fair enough, from a fan.
