And people don't revere Rod Laver, even though much of what he did has been surpassed? Bjorn Borg? I think Golds Girl has it right. "Weak" was the wrong word. You want him to stay ahead of Rafa in all things. And stretch his lead far enough not to see most of it broken for some time. That's fair enough, from a fan.

Tennis purists care about those guys and will continue to do so for awhile. Eventually everyone gets somewhat forgotten in sports, it just may take longer for some than others. If he finishes with a worse career than Nadal I'd say weak is the right word. Just my HUMBLE opinion.

Much of what was done by Laver was surpassed, but not by one of his contemporaries. That is why it is important Roger does not let his records be broken by his contemporaries. I don't care even if it is broken fairly quickly, but by a player who came in to the circuit later.

The only main way his career is likely to finish "worse" than Nadal's is in the Slam count. It would take a lot for anyone (but you) to say that Rafa finished with a better career than Roger's, even if he wins the Majors title race.

Bullshit, multiple people will over the next 100+ years, that is reality. Records are made to be broken. The key is keeping his rival at bay otherwise what has he done aside from make a ton of money? Not that that's bad as money is extremely important of course, but he's going for way more than that at this stage.
Colour me sceptical..

First I wouldn't say Rafa is likely to break the slam record but if this pathetic Wimbledon falls the wrong way than yes it is very possible. And the slam race is the biggest thing by far. Time at #1, total tourament wins, YEC, MS are all big but very secondary.

I'm not as slam centric I guess. To me it's about more than that. I guess that's why I'm less stressed about it. Weeks at no 1 is huge to me, as are total number of titles

With evolution and nutrition I think it's a given. We are marveling at athletes staying relevant in their mid 30's right now. In 20-30 years it might be early 40's or even older.

Look at the amount of accommodations they make for dull when they should've put his match on court 1. Tennis is a corrupt sport, always has been.

And along with that there'll be even more depth and competition. It balances out. We take fore granted how difficult it is to do what Novak, Rafa and Roger have done because they've all appeared in the same era.

Stop fussin. For the last 4 years all of his matches have been on CC. Contrary to popular belief he is not God and can play at least one match on Court 1 to give other players an opportunity to play there. All of the other greats (men and women included) have played at least one match on Court 1. It's about time he plays one there too.

Totally and completely agree. They really should have done it in the 2nd or 3rd round. Novak is a great champion as well and deserves some scheduling respect. As did Venus too

I'm not even going there w/ Venus because she hasn't been consistently relevant for a while so I accept that she will play the majority of her matches on Court 1 or even Court 2 at times depending on who's still left in the draw.

A 5 time champion and runner up last year? That deserves at least a 1st or 2nd round visit imho.

I mean... Rafa has barely been in the 2nd week for half a decade

I don't disagree, but she played 3 matches this year and all were on Court 1. And it's been this way for years w/ her.

It doesn't make it right. To me it makes it worse. They nearly did the same thing to Novak

I know it doesn't. For awhile, I brought it up every year and we've discussed it before ad naseum. Wimby has this policy of putting pretty blondes on CC even though they haven't done anything on grass.

I remember that in one year Wimbledon schedulers even openly admitted that pretty faces is also one of the criterion in scheduling.
They were not even trying to fool around and come around with other vague explanations. This was an year in which Sorana Cristea got a prime court assignment (can't remember which one it is) while other more accomplished players were out in the pasture.

I remember that. I also remember the year the queen came and Serena was #1 at the time and I believe defending champ and since they were scheduling 1 women's match per day on CC, they put a blonde there instead of her. There was a big stink about it then. This year is one of the first where I noticed they scheduled 2 women's matches on CC and one men's match.

What do you have against pretty blondes. They tend to make for excellent TV :lol6:
