Rafa isn't overdue for anything off clay. He's already overachieved plenty. Roger is overdue for #20 though. More overdue for showing he can still play at Flushing Meadows too. Well past time he becomes King of New York. That's my hope for this year, AO and USO. He can then come back in 2019 and win his last one at Wimbledon :)
No one gets a Major they don't win, but Rafa has come so close at the AO, and gotten skunked by injury all too often. I know you like to propagate the notion that he's just a dirt devil, but he's won plenty off-clay. I know that hurts.

"This board doesn't always welcome competitive banter?" It "stifles most non Fed conversations?" You are mistaking the "board" with the posters. There is no moderation here. Conversation is completely free, and I would challenge you as to how you've been "stifled." If your fellow posters are pushing on you, push back. There is no board POV and no one is being censored. Fight back or not, but that's on you.
Again..you are not comprehending my intent.. I am not talking about me..Lord knows I have no Filter when replying to posters..

Agreed about the bolded. After that heartbreaking loss in 2009,his bad luck(MPs in 2010,2011,2015 4/23 Bp conversion),bad health(2017,2013) have really thwarted his campaigns in New York.

Simon won Pune he beat Anderson, congrats to both players
I have to add here that Simon has dropped on the rankings at the end of last season to 89.
Therefore, here he was not seeded. Despite that he did very well because he beat top seed Cilic in the SF then second seed Anderson in the final. He obviously still has it.

Rafa and Novak have signed up to play in Kooyong classic. It is not clear whether they backed out of TB10 or they will play both.
Kooyong classic involves regular 3 set matches. Unlike regular tourneys it has a different format, where every player is guaranteed
three matches. It is not RR either. They usually start with 8 players and the winners progress playing other winners and losers
play other losers.

This will certainly be a good practice for both Rafa and Novak before AO (assuming they actually play finally).

It is from Jan 9 through 12. Also, it is bound to be interesting, as several other contenders (Cilic, Thiem, Goffin(?) and Anderson) are also playing in it. Tomic and Gasquet are also in it.

I don’t know if that is any good for Rafael and Novak—I just question how much wear and tear they can take at the moment.

Independent of whether a player wins or loses in any match, the Kooyong classic guarantees exactly three matches for all the players participating. So, if one wants guaranteed match practice, it is a much better event to play in than regular tourneys where you can be
kicked out right in 1st round.

If Rafa/Novak cannot withstand the grind of three 3-set matches, then it is reasonable to say that they stand no chance at AO.
Hence, I think it is good for both.

TB10 will be no predictor of what shape they are in.

hip surgery for Sir Andy today in Melbourne, everything went well, wish him a fast recovery

I saw that earlier today. I was surprised he had it in Melbourne. I thought he'd go back to the UK for it. Well...I wish him a speedy recovery, but we all know what happened to 2 other former #1s who had hip surgery...and never returned to #1 or won Slams again...

I wondered about that, too. Maybe there's some whizzy hip surgeon in Melbourne?

He said he's going to try to get back by grass season, maybe a bit before, and also that he's going to play fewer events.

Lol AP. His left bicep is still big (for a tennis player) but his shoulders (front and side delts) have lost a ton of size. He's probably hoping to lure Roger into a sense of bad memories. Gotta try something new I guess.
