If Kyrgios ever gets his shit together, look out. His future is so unpredictable - he could win several Slams and dominate for a couple years, or he could never win a single big title. My gut says he's going to have a good year in 2019, win something big.
You guys have to take in consideration how many injury problems he has besides the other obvious issues, @Iob mentioned.
He does not have neither the physical nor the mental strength to become a big player. You cannot judge the guy only based on his top level. He cannot sustain it. He has to fix way too many aspects.

By the way, @El Dude, my gut says otherwise, Kyrgios does not win anything significant

I don't think it's wrong to have hopes for a player, based on his top level, either. You're sure he won't do well, and El Dude still holds out hopes. As do I. You're not more right than we are, about the unknowable future. I'm surprised you're so negative about the guy. That's not your usual posture.

As for the bolded part, I am not sure. During matches, I think he is one of the toughest guys out there, mentally wise (or the craziest, but the outcome is equivalent). The name of the game is "do not get tight on big points". And in this prospect Kyrgios is hands down one of the best guys on tour.

Maybe he does not have the focus necessary for hard training (but I honestly don't buy this "I don't like to train" that easily), or, even harder, the focus needed to correct and improve the aspects of his game that need real improvement. I understand what people say when call him "talented" (even if my definition of talent is different), but even taking this into account, he really needs much better ground strokes if he wants to get higher rankings. What he has in his bag right now is not enough, maybe only for an occasional good result on a fast surface. So far, results wise, he has not been spectacular.

But time is not running out just yet... even if you assume that he won't be a late bloomer like so many have been lately, he still has almost two years to become 25 years old (if I am not mistaken).

BTW, after, what, around 35 years, I just won a tennis tournament!

Thanks, folks! "Tournament" makes it sound too important (I will do my self the courtesy of not describing it), but, as we say here, a W is a W.

The Abu Dhabi tournament is producing good matches, at least highlights wise. Kachanov - Thiem had some insane exchanges, and Nadal looked very good in the first set against Anderson, who played pretty solid, but Nadal was clearly not running for some balls he would normally track down almost easily. Not sure if this is good or bad...

I could only watch scores. I'm hoping that he figured to get in a good hit, not risk the legs, and I'm not sad he's avoiding Djokovic at this stage.

I checked the other results. Khachanov handled Thiem easily it seems. Thiem also lost to Chung in straight sets, so the conclusion here seems that as far as Thiem on HC is still a status quo, he remains irrelevant on this surface.
Also, Anderson will not be easily dispatched from the top 10 after his best season to date.
