It is kind of simple.

1. Every player still active in the tournament has a mathematical chance of winning it.
2. Some players have greater chances than others, based on a variety of factors - how good they are, how well they're playing currently, how they play on grass, etc.
3. Roger Federer probably has the best chances of any player, although is far from a shoe in to win the tournament.

Is there anything anyone disagrees with? Good, let's move on.

Good one. It's day 2. We've got a long way to go. Hopefully the level of discourse doesn't disintegrate from here, or we'll be Men's Tennis Forums by Friday. :lulz2:

Well, certain people (person?) seems to take offense when anyone says something that can be at all construed as attacking--or even just non-adulatory--of that person's favorite player. It is almost like, I dunno, this person wants to fight with everyone about their favorite?

But I shouldn't stir the pot, should I?

As to tomorrow's schedule:

Murray meets Dustin Brown. Tough 2nd round for a guy with a gimpy hip?
Nadal v. DYjr...I don't think so.
Kei v. Stakhovsky?
Rosol v. Muller for the anti-Rafa contingent...I'm guessing they'll go Muller.
Janowicz v. Pouille? Probably all Pouille, no?

Don't think anyone mentioned Gulbis - what a can of whoop-ass he opened on Burgos.

Now we'll find out just how gimpy Muzz is. If Kei can stay vertical, he should get by the Stak in no more than 4. Muller will come through and Jerzy is not the player he was.

After the first round is over, here are the latest odds for winning Wimbledon outright.

Two folks in the list before (Stan and Nick) were upset.

1. Federer 9/4
2. Rafa 4
3. Novak 5
4. Andy 6
5. Cilic 16
6. Raonic 20
7. Sasha 28
8. Tsonga 40
9. Thiem / Grigor 50
10. JMDP 80

All others have odds of more than 100, i.e., less than 1% chance. Next in line is Nishikori and Muller tied with odds of 120.

Not astonishing, but Gulbis does always go under the radar. Harrison took down Coric, who isn't at the moment living up to potential, Thiem got Pospisil in straights. And did anyone see the presser by Tomic after being straight-setted by M. Zverev? He said he was bored with tennis, that he was going to carry on playing for 10 years and retire with a lot of money. It was appalling.

Murray wins but loses one set by a large margin and a show by Mr. Brown.
Nadal probably wins but this is harder than people might be thinking. I stick to my opinion that Nadal´s draw is by far the hardest.
Nishikori against himself here, as I do not think Stakhovsky can emulate his past peaks this time.
Muller is the on form guy of the two and would be a extremely tough R4 for Nadal, if he gets there.
Pouille takes it (no problem as I like him) but it would be SO FUN to see Janowicz winning again, specially if he starts saying the big 4 are bunch of assholes and adds some more ogre like comments.

My question is why all of you think that Roger has more probabilities to win now if he has not won Wimbledon in 5 years, maybe because his result on HC this year? sorry but I don't buy that

Jerzy Janowicz is like Nick Kyrgios' even crazier older brother.

@Moxie, I have no faith in Coric ever being more than a borderline top 20 guy, if that. To me he seems like another Tomic or, at best, someone in the Almagro/Simon range - which isn't bad at all, just not commensurate with his early promise, having reached the top 100 at 17. Despite winning his first tournament earlier this year, he's pretty much stagnated in the rankings for a couple years now. He reached the top 100 just a couple weeks shy of his 18th birthday, reached the top 50 in May of 2015 at age 18 and is currently ranked...#45, never having gone higher than #33. So no real movement in over two years.

Great players literally never stall out like that at a young age for as long as Coric has. Both Sampras and Rafa stalled a bit, but only for short times and then jumped quickly to elite status. An interesting comp is Richard Gasquet, who also reached the top 100 as a 17-year old (not long after turning 17, so a bit younger than Coric) but then stalled out around 100-150 for about a year and a half, before zooming up into the top 20 as a 19-year old. But then he stalled out again and never really got much better, although has spent some time in the top 10. Gasquet is what could be called a "tier 2.5" player - never as good as the Berdych/Tsonga (tier 2) types, but better than the Isner-Simon (tier 3) types. Not sure what Coric's upside is, but I'm guessing somewhere below Gasquet's.
