Having struggled twice on his serve, Fed holds easily for 5-2. Is this is for Stan, or does he have it left in him to belt some more balls and win three games on the trot?

After struggling in the previous two service games, Fed finally gets it done easily this time. Leads 5-2. One game away from winning the match.

Haha, great minds think alike. :)

A love hold, and he finally makes it. Roger is in another GS final - probably against Nadal. :clap

Who's the boy in Fed's box?

But, IMO he unnecessarily let it go this long. After leading two sets to love, he should have finished it in at least four sets.

But, the match was not too long. 3 hours and 10 minutes or so.

He gets two days rest which is much needed.

WOW!!!
Fedex looked down and out before the fifth, but somehow regrouped, started serving better and making Stan run more, Stan got tight, and there was no turning back.
Fed showed weakness in rallies a bit though. Plenty of negative reactions to Stan's ballbashing, but credit to stan, he was in his MAN edition after the second set.

That's a bit mean ... to paraphrase Yoda, "When 78 age years old you reach, look as good you will not."

Has anyone thought Roger was going to ADD points after the AO this year? Wow...I mean , except me, because I predicted he is doing the single year grand slam this year. ;)

:laydownlaughing

No, I certainly didn't expect this. Whatever happens on Sunday, he's exceeded all expectations.

But of course he won't want to stop here now. He keeps putting himself into the position of winning slams, he must surely get one eventually.

His 28th GS singles final. Do you think that record that will ever be broken? Djokovic and Nadal are closest with 21/20.

The match was definitely not a classic or epic by any means, even though it went to five sets. Roger ended the match with a negative differential (47 winners, 50 UFE) which he rarely does. To some extent, I would say Roger was lucky to win this match.

In the post match interview, Fed said "I will give my all out in the finals. I don't care even if I cannot walk for the next five months". That is the spirit.

If Nadal makes the final, it will be the same singles finals in men's and women's as at 2008 Wimbledon - when George W Bush was US President, and Gordon Brown was UK Prime Minister.

Yeah, I don't think fitness should come into it (unless the "leg thing" becomes a serious issue).

The match wasn't too long for a five-setter, and might help Fed a bit in giving him something to analyse and focus on ahead of the final. I'd rather he throw in this performance in against Stan and rediscover the form from the Berdych match in the final than vice versa. :)

The two days will not give advantage to Roger. Rather, it will put him at equal footing with the opponent, instead of being disadvantaged.

...and Telly Savalas had hair ;)

Random fact:

Contrary to popular belief, Telly didn’t lose his hair. He shaved his head for his role as Pontius Pilate in The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and decided to remain shaved for the remainder of his life, becoming the most famous bald man on the planet and giving bald men everywhere, a badly-needed icon and sex symbol, making bald cool. Savalas famously said once that “everyone’s born bald.”

What a day? All oldies win in RLA. Not only Fed and William Sisters, but also Bryan Brothers. They should make AO part of senior circuit. :lolz:

Indeed. But that in itself means that it is an advantage (compared to only having one).

Factoid: Roger has not lost AO finals to anyone other than Rafa (and that was the time when it brought tears).
