Factoid: Roger has not lost AO finals to anyone other than Rafa (and that was the time when it brought tears).

Pedant alert: A "factoid" is actually "an item of unreliable information that is reported and repeated so often that it becomes accepted as fact".

And yes, I know that since the 1980s/1990s it is often (perhaps more often) used to mean "a little-known bit of information; trivial but interesting data" (quoting Wikipedia), but I nonetheless can't help being annoyed by this. :)

If it's going to be against Nadal, an extra day or two of rest won't matter at all.

I want to have whatever Fed had applied to his "groin" available to me when I take my dream trip to Brazil..with my completed Rossetti Stone cds of learning Portuguese and Fed's groin injury remedy, I should be a very :basiate guy.

I disagree. Whatever the probability of Fed beating Nadal in the final is, it's greater than zero, and it's greater if Fed is at least fit and rested than it would be if he's not.

What odds are the bookies giving for the coming Rafa victory on Sunday?

I get you. I meant that an extra day or two more than the opponent would not matter because one poster had mentioned that he will be fresher because he played his semi today. I remember in 2009 he played his semi on Thursday, while Verdasco and Nadal played a marathon on Friday, but Federer looked the more tired as the final progressed.

Agreed. Even though time has moved on, and Nadal is 30 now, he still seems to be extremely fit. He lasted better than Zverev (more than ten years younger) in his five-setter, and showed no signs of that match affecting him.

Fed certainly won't have an advantage in the sense that Nadal will be tired - but at least hopefully he won't be tired himself, which I think was a factor in 2016 SW19 SF against Raonic. :)

according to l'Equipe, he has had this groin pain from the beginning of the match, they don't tell how serious it is

He said in the post-match interview that it's a "leg thing" that he has had actually even from early in the tournament (iirc). According to the press conference, he didn't think it affected him less in the fifth set than in the early sets, and that atm he doesn't think it will affect him in the final (but then he is always going to say that).

Roger's is walking into the final injured between the ears. Those injuries last decades and flare up at all the wrong moments.

I actually like Roger's chances against Nadal in the final. Yes, I've written down the L for Dimitrov already... The court is faster than it was in 2009 and Roger beat him in Basel in 2015. Plus, I've seen some of Nadal's matches - not the full matches though because I could build a 4 bedroom house in time he takes between points - and he's been good sometimes and mediocre other times. He's another guy who wouldn't be in the final if Djokovic didn't have his head up his butt. But, Nole's loss, his gain.

Only the players have the last word and not his fans. Rafa absolutely is playing, voylling, serving and returning pretty well. The court is faster and the balls lighter (very convenient for Roger) but it seems working well for Rafa too. Both players have had high and down moments during the tourney but obviously more good ones than for bad ones. Hope Rafa wins the semis and finals, it would be great for his lost confidence and good preparation for the whole year

Fedex looked down and out before the fifth, but somehow regrouped, started serving better and making Stan run more, Stan got tight, and there was no turning back.
Fed showed weakness in rallies a bit though. Plenty of negative reactions to Stan's ballbashing, but credit to stan, he was in his MAN edition after the second set.

I think Roger's dip after Stan's well-timed injury time out was to be expected. He hasn't played but 8 matches in 6 months so the dip was to be expected. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I doubt Mirka was impressed by Stan's injury timeout and muttered a few "cry babies" under her breath when Roger lost the 3rd...and the 4th... :lolz:

Main issue in that SF against Raonic wasn't fatigue but his knee. Remember the point where he just fell flat on his face out of nowhere. He finished the match like a good sport but was screwed from that point onwards when his knee just gave up.

Bah, FedEx has two full days to rest and taking care with his groin pain.... :D
