But that´s the whole point. Umpires aren´t consistent because they are using their "better judgement" all the time. I am sure they did not forget the rule, and neither are waiting to apply it in the worst possible moment. They apply it when they "feel" enough is enough.

If you want consistency, you need to consistently enforce the rule. So, for me, the problem is not when someone enforces the rule, it is when they do not do it (which is far more often).

Which kinds of brings us full circle... why would "enough be enough" be good judgement on a match point, after a punishing rally, break point or at a critical moment... ? Seems more a lack of common sense to me.

Haven't seen anything but following the scores and am pleasantly surprised to see Roger winning all 4 in straights. He can't be playing too bad given that. Certainly it's a lot better than we saw in Stuttgart and Halle. Hope he can get through Juicic without too much trouble. And querrey taking out raonic would make life easier too.

I didn't see the Murray/Kyrgios clash but Nick's whole attitude seems pretty self destructive based on his comments, like a sulky 14 year old.

'Pretty pathetic' Kyrgios slumps out with barely a whimper
From uk.reuters.com - Today, 10:19 AM

If Nick Kyrgios had shown half as much spark on court as he did in his post-match news conference, the Australian might have scraped more than the 10 games he managed in Monday's schizophrenic Wimbledon fourth round defeat to Andy Murray.

Worth a read.

after murray broke him late in 1st set, nick was dismal, he tanked set two, he just was not putting in any real effort.

Federer breezed through.....again. fended off an early surge by Johnson who had a few breaks points early doors.

Feddo is really improving..cilic will be interesting, which cilic will turn up ??????. dunno.

^^hum..i'm skeptical about a potential scary cilic.. :scratch:I think he is undercooked..after that nishikori dud. and murray beat him at queens, Federer has been upping his level,,

I've seen all 4 of his matches, and he is looking crisp and sharp, his serve is 'on it', movement is better than halle/Stuttgart..confidence is growing, and I think he is back on track after 11 matches on grass.:hoops: and Stefan Edberg was in feds players box today, just as a friend, no coaching reunion.

I thought i'd replied/quoted you but.....obviously not.

I hope so, although Fed's hard a pretty easy draw to date... it will be his first real test. Fingers crossed.

Vesely has just been broken in the opening game of the 5th set decider with Berdych.

I' would have liked to see Vesely winning but at the end Berdych made it. I haven't seen him to play with so much energy and so well for long time but we'll see how long he will last...
