Too bad about our buddy Zed. And I was sorry to see JMDP go out, but hopefully he's back in the hunt. Kyrgios/Lopez Pt.2 was still full of really entertaining tennis, with Nick playing some excellent ball. If he can learn keep his head, and to sustain this level, he's sure to win Majors. When asked about the time violation warning on MP, he gave a very diplomatic response, and allowed as how he'd been spoken to previously by Maria, so he reckoned he'd better pick up the pace. All with a smile. That was very politic of him, and I was glad to see it.
I think Vesely wants to say something in this tournament.......
It was absolutely outrageous and uncalled for at that moment. Nick said he was collecting himself on MP. As you would. What does it serve for the umpire to insert himself at that moment? It turns out, it was the last point of the match. How was that going to hurry anything up, late in the 4th set? I know Rafa gets a lot of grief for complaining, but umpires should warn early, give violations early on, and then that would speed things up. And I don't agree with them making themselves a factor on MP.Calling Time Violations on match points or similar big points is totally against the spirit of things. Glad Nick held it together but somebody needs to lay down the law against this nonsense.
Not sure how much longer he gets protected ranking, but he will also likely get WCs, which could zoom him up the rankings into main draw properly, if he keeps playing well.del potro gets 90 rank points and will be around 140 rank next time rank charts are updated.
wildcards are up for grabs on the Newport grass next week (where top seed is karlovic). plus the q man, taylor fritz, del potro should play some smaller tourneys where he can get some matches and rank points in.Not sure how much longer he gets protected ranking, but he will also likely get WCs, which could zoom him up the rankings into main draw properly, if he keeps playing well.
That could make Newport more than just genteel and an after-thought.wildcards are up for grabs on the Newport grass next week (where top seed is karlovic). plus the q man, taylor fritz, del potro should play some smaller tourneys where he can get some matches and rank points in.

Really...no leeway for a long rally and for players to catch their breaths? If the rule about time between points is to keep it moving and interesting for the fans, it would be a shame to encourage shortened rallies, which are also appealing to the fans. And realistically, you're not going to shorten the rallies. So there will be grey areas. You can look to mitigate them, but I don't think you can eliminate them.I love to disagree with people. The more important the point, the more important the enforcement of the rules. What would happen if Kyrgios had taken, say, 50 seconds to serve? Oh, but he did not. But what number is ok? I´m sorry, it is easier to keep this door shut. There should not be grey areas in sporting rules. I don´t even agree when people say that it is ok to take more than 25 (or 20) seconds between points after a long rally...
