Mubadala exhibition in Abu Dhabi starts today.

In the first match, Ferrer flew past JW Tsonga:

Ferrer - Tsonga 6-1, 6-1.

Pretty pathetic by Tsonga going by the scoreline.

It's all about the cash , if you were expecting competitive tennis for an exhibition, then you haven't been paying attention

So do I understand that Tsonga does not need the cash?
I am sure the prize money is not flat amount for all participants.

Although is an exhibition, this event gives them a good opportunity to measure their preparation for the Aussie swing which starts next week.
Just looked up quickly Ferrer - Tsonga H2H and is 3-1 for David. Shockingly they played so little against each other and Jo had not much success against David it seems.

His serve is erratic but when he's serving well he really should blow Ferret off the court. He has way more weapons and firepower at his disposal. No excuse to have a losing h2h to this guy :nono

Ferret strikes me as the sort of guy who's always serious when he plays, even at exhibitions. Complete opposite of Tsonga really but no excuse to win only 2 games. That's no enjoyment for the crowd.

I don't know what your interpretation of " it's about the cash is" but JowillieTs competes harder than this for most tournaments, I am quite sure the appearance fee was a substantial amount

Yeah, that's about the real extent of it

This notion that Tsonga has "way more weapons" is very misleading. Jo has a big serve and forehand. That is it. But when it comes up against a good defender, those do not mean as much as the H2H indicates. The lone victory of Jo was on grass which is David's weakest surface, on clay or HC he was defeated by David in all 3 encounters.

Tsonga one of the few to break up the Masters lock of the "Big 4" in the last several years! He also had 4 match points against Nole at the French Open a few years ago, so he has the ability, just not the heart to be consistent enough to win a Major as well! :nono

Still, a superior attacker should beat a good defender and shouldn't allow himself to succumb to errors due to the human backboard rattling him. Need more guys out there with nerves and concentration of steel 'cos personally I can't stand this era of slow courts making it easier for this type of nonsense non stop retrieval of every ball prevailing over good old fashioned offensive first strike tennis. It's no longer tennis, it's more like squash mixed with triathlon. Tennis is becoming utter bollocks to watch.

Happy New Year to everyone! :celeb:

Tsonga same like Monfils are not the same good players of 4, 5 years ego because their injuries. They maybe can play just one good match but that's all, a lack of consistence. Meanwhile Ferru doesn't waste the time, exos or not he always fight until the end of every single match :popcorn
