Novak's main target at this moment is the Olympic title. The Canadian event serves as a warm up for him, Cincy will be held only after the Olympics.

If Nole really won the Tornoto carrying an injury, it is a big shame for the ATP field out there and even more so for the players who faced him there. :cover

Whether it is an injury or mental fatigue, I think this is a good thing for Djokovic. He could just relax and not think about tennis for a couple of weeks. At this point of his career, he really just needs to focus on Slams and Masters 1000 titles.

On the flip side, this could be a good opportunity for Murray to gain some points back in the ATP Race rankings.

In addition, other players could use Cincy to boost their confidence and ranking points going into the US Open. Nadal, Raonic, and Nishikori are only 700 points apart from each other. And with Federer not playing the US Open, each one of those players can grab the 4th seed thus avoiding Djokovic or Murray until the semifinals.

I know I may be alone with this thought but I don't think Rafa worries about Murray

Really? After Rafa started dropping clay court matches to Murray, I would think concern would cross his mind! :cover

I think if Murray and Rafa are playing at their best, I would still favor Rafa

When was the last time Nadal played his best though ? That said, from what little I watched here he looks to be playing pretty well.

shoulder injury that he picked up in Wimbly, he should haver skipped Toronto and concentrate on OG, now his injury got worse, he had an epic fail in Rio and he'll miss Cincy...not a very clever schedule

Stan might skip Cincy also. If so, Cincy takes huge hit with Roger, Novak and Stan out.
Who knows what Andy / Rafa will decide considering they are going deep in Rio?

I think they will UP the appearance fee for Andy/Rafa to attend Cincy.. Rafa will surely bite for it which is not wise

ATP 1000 tourneys (and I believe 500 too) are not allowed to pay appearance fee as they are "mandatory" toruneys for top players.

Tsonga'll be there (source l'Equipe) and our dear Paire who''ll do his best 'cause this time, Cincy offers a lot of money and point (unlike Rio) !!
