Roger's back training. Actually this is from May 27th and he was apparently fit enough to play RG but just lacking in match play.

I actually don't buy that.

Who knows, he's lifting weights there no problem with good form since last Friday.

Fully fit he probably would've had a very good chance of going deep here with how badly everyone is playing, including Novak.

You perhaps forgot that his back problems were ignited by playing in cold and dump environment.
I am sure he does not regret a minute he is not in Paris to deal with the stop start rainy conditions.

Dead right that cold, damp conditions don't help back issues but my comment was more to do with the poor levels of all the top guys in the draw and one glaring absence from the draw besides himself.

I believe if Roger was 100% fit and was merely lacking match play, he would have chosen to play RG. With his years of experience it is not difficult to play yourself into form in a GS draw which typically gives you couple of easy rounds (unlike a Master's draw which can be really tough from the get go). The only reason that he choose not to play at RG is that he did not feel 100% physically and did not want to risk playing in that condition with possible negative effects on his performance at Wimby/Rio/USO which are obviously more important to him.

Nadal withdraws from Queens. No surprise there.

Wimbledon and Olympics next. 90% chance imo.

Wimbledon, yes; But, not Olympics. He is not having a surgery. He is just having non-surgical treatment. Should be OK for Rio. Besides, where else could he possibly get Zika infection. :p

We'll see. I'm not expecting him to play either event but stranger things have happened.

That's prejudice. The probabilities of being infected by Zika are not that high here. Being a foreigner, he would probably be kidnapped first. There are no reported cases of hostages infected by Zika.

Rafa has got all kinds of crazy sicknesses from knee issues to appendicitis, he may come back with Zika even if generic chances might be low. That was my main point.

Fed tied Lendl in matches won at 1071. They both are joint #2 now. Jimmy Connors is #1 with 1256.
So, Fed needs to win 185 more matches to tie Connors. He won 63 matches in 2015. If he can maintain that level, he needs three years from now to become #1. However, his performance will go down and is already going down. So, he would need at least four more years of play from today to catch up. I think he will retire before that.

So, Jimbo's record will be safe. But in his days there were lots of itsy, bitsy tourneys that he played in. Many of the match wins are of country club variety.

It's a recognition of longevity more than its a recognition of success. I get that he needs to win matches to play matches, but I don't see this as anything more than a validation of what we already know - that Roger 'back-then' was the very best and Roger 'now' is still one of the very best. Still the numbers are staggering when you think about them
