I mean I am being honest. I just don't think anyone would have given Serena credit even if she did achieve it. All of her career it has been a that is nice she achieved that but this or that. It is rather unfortunate that she can achieve something good and then get backhanded and say but...That has been her career.

Serena won in almost every statistic (except for the stat of who won the match). :snicker

Serena won 93 total points to 85 by Vinci.

Serna had a +10 differential to -1 by Vinci (Winners - UFE).

Serena won 41% of receiving points as opposed to 36% by Vinci (when this happens, it is called a lottery match).

Serena also won various other sundry stat, such as first serves in, first serve % points won, first serve speed etc.

You can say what you want, but these #'s show you what a serious choke that was.

Yeah Serena choked on a hairball the size of Drake's head. She had to hit three smashes to finally end the point. The court was open and she just kept hitting it back to Vinci. :cover

Maybe. But I think they would have given her age. But now we'll never know. Let's face it, they don't hand out accolades for almost doing something.

I beg to differ. While what you are saying might have been true in the past, if she had won this USO, thus finishing both CYGS and tieing Graf, I think most would have give it and those that would not give would simply called detractors.

Now, even if she reaches 25, she may not be called goatess.

I think what will hurt the most is being up 2-0 in the third and not holding to go up 3-0.

Maybe. But she was kind of done after missing all those BPs in the 2nd set. It's a horrendous trend that's been biting her in the rear all year. If you look at her previous 3-setters and tight matches, she had a host of BPs that she fluffed. That doesn't bode well for your confidence when you aren't serving particularly well either.

Hopefully, she and Patrick have a game plan for better start to finish play for next year in the slams especially. She paid the price for flirting with danger finally.

In today's match, both players broke each other 4 times. Unfortunately, Serena did too many times in the same set.

I suppose I can take solace in the fact that if Federer could never achieve it and he is considered the GOAT period, that Serena making it this far is commendable.

But, serena is trying to be goatess. If her career ends today, she would not be considered goatess.
Really??? She has won all in a row four twice, although not a CYG. NO ONE has ever done that. Is she diminished because she did not do it in one calendar year?

Actually Steffi did the Steffi slam twice as well. So in that she just tied her not surpass her.

Read the bolded part. If her career ends today, she stops at 21 and Steffi has 22, not to mention the Calendar Year Golden Slam. That being the case, Serena cannot rightfully considered GOATESS, come on be rational.

Why can't she be considered a GOAT? Roger who many consider the greatest to play the game doesn't have a CYS either nor does he have a Roger Slam. I don't really get into GOAT arguments typically anyway because they are always losing arguments because of all the qualifiers. That being said I would probably go with Martina period as she was disciplined across the board.

Roger doesn't have anyone ahead of him in slams or record achievements. Serena does. So for her to even be considered goat, she has to at least tie if not surpass the women ahead of her.

She still has time, so we will see what she can do. Hopefully, first strike is Australia.

Well we can eliminate her getting to Navratilova's mark with 6 majors in a row! That should be a non-issue from here on out as well as taking over the "OPEN" record of 59 majors! :p  :dodgy:

this will hurt for sure but I think they all knew that she might not win because Serena kept saying that if it doesnt happen here she has chances next year even Patrick and Venus repeated this over and over again.
Serena is a great champion and Vinci beating her wont change that..if the tennis world cannot appreciate that even though she lost she has the Serena Slam.I think she was mentally exhausted....she has been struggling all summer and even at this event she was making errors all over the place.
I am kinda relieved that she didnt lose to a young player because we will be hearing it over and over again.Flavia and Vinci are as old as Serena and will also be retiring soon...
today was not her day 11th day of September...
September 11 2011 she lost to Stosur...2015 september 11 she lost to Vinci...
food for thought
there is something about this day that messes her up...

my heart aches for Serena. she got too tight and did not move her feet. she wasn't going for her reurns just guiding the balls in and not choosing the right shot at certain moments. but credits to vinci she balled well and kept her cool. congrats to her. somewhere Vika, Maria, Sasha and slew of other people are rejoicing.
let them rejoice all they want now but they already know their chances are diminished AT AO16.....she better go home and talk with Richard.
she needs to speak with the person who dreamt this vision...:cry..
who knows maybe that elbow was not completely healed because the errors from her forehand were too many.
