Now on to the men's matches. Federer still has a chance to make his 7th US Open final. Definitely a better chance to beat Stan on hard courts than on the clay. Hoping to see Cilic beat Djokovic though because I don't want him to get to all 4 slam finals in 1 year if Serena can't. Or actually, I just don't want him to ever get to 4 slam finals in one year or in a row. I'm ok with him winning more slams in his career. But not too many. He can't get too close to Rafa and Fed. But mostly I just want to see Fed get some revenge on Cilic for last years semis. But, revenge on Djokovic for the last 2 Wimbledon finals would be great too. But of course, Fed has a better chance of winning against Cilic every day of the week. So, that's the real motivation. If Stan beats Fed... I don't know what I want. A Cilic repeat? Heck no. I guess I'll be pulling for Stan to win his 3rd slam. Which is not something I ever thought was possible after like 2010. I mean, seriously, his late career resurgence is nothing short of amazing. To find the mental stamina to win 2 slams after a career of flaking when you showed so much promise from the start.... Really something.

300-1 presumably outright to win at the start of the tournament before a single match was played. That's a different matter altogether ;)

Oh. Yeah. I never would have done that. I thought it was 300-1 for this match. I think that's what the guy on court after the match said. I don't know though. I'm not sitting her crying over it. I've still got my 20 dollars. For now. Though I could really use 6k right about now.

Not a hope it was for this match

I don't bet. I don't know anything about how odds are set. 300-1 for one match seemed high to me. But I did believe it because, I mean, it's Vinci vs Serena. Anyways, learn something new every day.

All the Steffi fans can breathe a sigh of relief [RELIEVED FACE]

Steffi can breathe a sigh of relief. Former players give the PC response when asked about their records being tied/broken, but come on ...

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!! I'm stunned, but congratulations to Roberta and Flavia. I'm not sure if I'm going to final tomorrow, even though I like the two finalist. My husband said I better go since he brought the tickets, lol.

I suppose I can take solace in the fact that if Federer could never achieve it and he is considered the GOAT period, that Serena making it this far is commendable.

Rafter and Philippoussis; an all Aussie final comes to mind from 20+ years ago in Flushing! Did the Belgians, Henin and Clijster play a final or was that a semi? :cover :nono  :dodgy:

But, serena is trying to be goatess. If her career ends today, she would not be considered goatess.

She could have closed the door almost completely with a slam, but she now leaves it wide open for eternal debate.

Not in my opinion! Martina set the bar so high excelling in all events, winning 2 majors almost routinely! Like McEnroe, she could play and win with anyone! Neither Wms can say that since they normally only played together! Martina made plans to play with Graf twice; 1 USO and 1 Wimbledon! She was sabotaged each time by Steffi dropping out after the 3rd round citing rest needed for the singles! 'Well duh;' was she that slow and dumb or was this on purpose? Navratilova's 59 majors in the OPEN era won't ever be surpassed IMO! :p  :clap  :dodgy:

Agreed. It's pretty hard even if she reaches 22-25 to say there is no argument for Steffi or Martina considering Steffi's CYS and Martina's endless number of titles and longevity. I think it's pretty clear we can say Serena is the most gifted and talented player of all time. Just not sure one could close the book on her as GOAT.

I personally still rate Navratilova higher than Serena and Graf but that's just me.

I was close to tears at the end of the third set. So sad for Serena. I wanted her to win the title. Happy to see Vinci achieving this at the twilight of her career. She has a beautiful game.

Not sure I will watch the final since I have no strong preference who wins. Glad it is someone older who will never get another chance. Sort of like Bartoli. Vika must be kicking herself hard. This major could have been hers.

I was ready to give it to Serena. But she's at the top with Navratilova still now. Graf is not there because of the few freebies she got from the Seles incident. Navaratilova's numbers and longevity are too incredible to ignore.

Serena won in almost every statistic (except for the stat of who won the match). :snicker

Serena won 93 total points to 85 by Vinci.

Serna had a +10 differential to -1 by Vinci (Winners - UFE).

Serena won 41% of receiving points as opposed to 36% by Vinci (when this happens, it is called a lottery match).

Serena also won various other sundry stat, such as first serves in, first serve % points won, first serve speed etc.

You can say what you want, but these #'s show you what a serious choke that was.
