Talking and thinking about the GS numbers which I see some posters are more concerned I rather to see Novak winning than Roger. Nadal would have to continue playing so badly to make easier to Novak to reach his numbers and I don't think it will be the case. If he would start to play better (I hope he will) I see that he will reach the 17 easier than Djokovic the 14

Nadal isn't reaching 17. He hasn't won a slam since FO 2014. The longer he goes without a win the harder it gets. You better believe the one he really has a shot at 2016 FO that Djokovic already has marked on his calendar to try and win as well.

Then under that theory Federer won't win tomorrow after more than three years of 'drought'

i'm feeling romantic......I'm going for Federer in three.

that's gonna mean zero sets lost in the whole tourney and a major aged 34.

Which would make him the first man in the Open Era to win the US Open without dropping a set -- the only Major where no one has accomplished this. (Rosewall and Federer won the AO without dropping a set; Nastase, Borg, and Nadal won RG; and Borg won Wimbledon.)

In terms of who could use this more Djokovic. This win will put him in double digits. Realistically, he could have it in him to win 2-3 slams next year and then after that it gets maybe dicier depending on what happens. I think surpassing Roger will be hard, but Nadal's number certainly looks more passable if he gets this win.
In terms of career- and especially US Open resume Novak certainly "needs" it more. If you think more in the moment it's probably of bigger importance for Roger. Novak had a great season anyway whereas for Roger it would be bittersweet if the only thing he really has to show for his resurgence of the last 14 months apart from a rising title count is newfound respect for his longetivity and a lot of experts proclaiming he's playing better than ever.

For the players the moment is probably the prevalent focus instead of the career perspective, so I think Federer subjectively has more on the line in this match than Novak.

:clap Congratulations :clap

Pierre Herbert and Nicolas Mahut won the U.S. Open Men's Doubles. Herbert is having his best year so far, making it to the singles final of Winston-Salem and the men's doubles final in Oz.
:celeb:

The lads celebrating their win.

You don't think the intangibles will come into play? I mean Federer hasn't won this slam since 2008. He certainly is capable of winning it. I think however there will be nerves and Federer can count on Djokovic getting more returns into play than anyone he has faced this far.

I fear that, as so often the last few years, Federer will drop his game (1st serve % under 60, & unforced errors high) when it matters the most: Grand Slam Final..

I dont think he will drop his game, his opponent is just a better player plain and simple

Weather favors Djoker, I believe. Fed thrives more in laboratory, perfect conditions. Also, as to what SABR meams, I heard it described as Sneak Attack By Roger. Djoker in 4.

Cheers

I don't even think it'd be bittersweet for Roger. Old man or not he isn't playing just to get a few deep runs in majors. He came out of 2014 with nothing aside from Davis Cup for those who go crazy over it. And as of right now it's the same in 2015. One match decides if this is a great year or another lost one for him. Sounds cruel...but that's sport.

And anyone saying he's playing better than ever is nuts, you don't make that based off of 6 or even 20 great matches in a row. It's a long season and as great as Roger has played for much of it he still had losses to Seppi at AO, a straight set beatdown by Stan at RG, and a very subpar performance in the Wimbledon final.

As for who needs or wants it more, to be honest, I don't know but what I do know though is that this is Roger Federer playing some of the very best and most inspired tennis for quite some time facing Novak at the very peak of his career. I mean do you guys even realize what a privileged bunch we are to see them in front of 23.000 in Arthur Ashe battling it out for the championship and probably for one of the very last times? I know that one day I will look back with tears in my eyes to these times because they won't last forever.

As Marty would say: 'Doc, I am back, back from the future...Roger, Novak, Rafa, Andy and Stan, they are...they are gone!' But for now it's still in front of us, so make the best out of it folks. Life is tragic enough. Invite some friends, run a party, prepare some spicy gameday food, have fun, crank up some epic music, dance to it, go out and kiss a grandma, rip your shirt off like Nole, this is what we live for as tennis geeks.

Hell, be Robbie Koenig for day...'This is breathtaking stuff folks, STOP IT, this is Novak at his very, veeery gorgeous uber best folks. Scintillating stuff folks! What do you think Jason?' 'I mean it's phenomenal!' And what's better than the thrill of anticipation on a chilly sunday? I am so pumped man, this feels like the Super Bowl!

Oh and before I forget it, Connors in 5.
