Fed is NOT getting booed for having a second look at that call against a French player. Have not seen that all week.

The trick is to get on lead and that shuts half the crowd.

Fed has had about half a dozen "good idea, bad execution" points so far.

So much for that quick walk in the park for Roger! Nice lob over the old man! Now forcing him to go for too much at the net! Monfils consolidates his break! :popcorn

I'm just going to sit this one out. Not commenting on what might happen, impossible with Monfils. Could be 5 sets could still be over in 3.

I can't remember a player who has such a fluctuating level as Monfils. Sometimes he looks like an elite player, sometimes a total mess. One player that comes to mind is Dolgopolov.

Yeah they are similar in that sense. Although Dolgopolov is almost always a total mess and only rarely an elite player.

My thoughts exactly. As I've pointed out before, in a way the same is true of every player, that they have three modes of play: low, medium, and high, and that the greats are those that can play at the high level with frequency and rarely get to the low level. Someone like Monfils might be 30/40/30, Dolgopolov 60/30/10, whereas Federer c. 2006 might be 5/20/75, or c. 2015 be 20/50/30.

Or something like that.

The thing that gives me hope for this set is that just as the chances of Monfils of breaking Federer are pretty high, the chances of him being broken back are even higher.

Frew McMillan just said Federer lost just one point on his first serve in set 1 and won just 1 point on his first serve in set 2.

The thread has been fixed. Someone had to merge all the posts from the other thread. What have I missed?

They are both playing pretty terrible. Monfils looking to level the match to one set all, but I would not bet my house on it of him actually getting it done.
