Just as an aside, I've only been to Belgium once, years ago, and visited Brussels, Bruges and Ghent. Ghent is the most beautiful little town, peaceful too. Picturesque. For all sorts of reasons we'd all hope the police make the right call on this one...

I read that the Belgium has hired Michael Llodora as a special consultant coach for their doubles team.
Andy is expected to win his two matches. Belgium feels that they ought to be able to win other two singles. So, they expect this to come down to doubles match and so the special consultant.

However, UK has a much stronger doubles team in Murray and Murray (J. Murray and Inglot) and so I think UK will win even if it comes down to doubles.

Murray could join greats with flawless eight

Murray can join John McEnroe and Mats Wilander as the only players to win 8 Davis Cup singles matches in a year if he can beat Goffin and Darcis this weekend. He can also be only the fourth man to win 11 Davis Cup matches in a year if he wins the doubles as well. McEnroe had a 12-0 record in 1983. Murray didn't play doubles against the USA in the 1st round. Michael Stich (1993) and Ivan Ljubucic (1995) went 11-1. Murray could become only the second man to win 11 matches without a loss.

Go ANDY!

This means if he wins two live singles rubber in UK, he will get 275 points (75 each for the two rubbers and 125 "performance bonus" for winning all 8) regardless of whether UK wins or loses.

Also, if Murray wins only one live singles rubber (may be because there was no need for him to
play second or may be because he loses one of them), but UK win, he will get 150 points (75 points
for his live rubber and 75 points for team bonus).

They just announced the Great Britain team.

Andy Murray
Kyle Edmund
James Ward
Jamie Murray

So we know who the doubles team will be for sure now. As if there was any doubt.

So Singles #84/Doubles #596 Darcis goes to doubles, while Singles #108/ Doubles #160 Bemelmans goes to No.2 singles.

Things that make you go hmmmmm......

A very good article about the last time GB reached the Davis Cup final, in 1978, with a team made up of Mark Cox, the Lloyd brothers, and Buster Mottram:

If you bet 25 euros on Kyle and if he delivers, you win 175 euros (and get your original 25 back).
So, they are giving Kyle 12.5 % chance. That is being very liberal.

I quite remember Mark winning a WCT event over Dick Stockton! Cox was a left-hander with pretty much only a good forehand! Obviously good enough to make an impression that I've remembered for 40 years! ;-) :dodgy:

Dominic Inglot did not travel to Belgium. UK has sent just a 4 member team. This would mean that Andy Murray is 100% certain to play in doubles.

Stunningly, Klye Edmund is leading Goffin with 2 sets to nil:

6-3, 6-1

Squeaky bums. Goffin is on a roll, he's up a double break - 4-1 - in the fourth...

Goffin has restored sense to the tie: he's running away with it in the fifth...

Two hours ago it looked like it was over for Belgium before Andy even took the court. At least they're still in it now. Good turn around by Goffin.
