Apparently Murray might skip wtf for Davis Cup, that's some commitment that will def make it harder next year to challenge Novak for number 1. Praiseworthy and I def. don't mind, will be rooting for Belgium tho.

l'Equipe said the same thing, it's a smart move, Andy has a great opportunity to win DC, he musn't miss it .

It appears Andy doesn't have a choice. WTF is a mandatory event:

The four day gap is actually good enough as long as the surface remains the same. Unfortunately, for Andy, the DC finals is going to be on clay.

Andy can go to London and tank a couple of RR matches there (it might even come naturally to him :snicker) to ensure that he does not even reach SF. Then he gets 6 or 7 days break and should be good to go.

Actually, the competition for GBR is not strong. Belgium got only Goffin and Darcis. Andy should be able to handle them even on clay and even after playing WTF.

Actually, Andy also said that he plans to play only in Shanghai, Paris and London apart from DC earlier. That would mean Andy is skipping Beijing/Tokyo as well as Vienna/Basel. That means he is not playing in a 500 event after USO. According to ATP rules all top players must commit to play in 4 500 events, one of which must be a Post-USO event. If he does not meet that requirement, he will have to take a 0 pointer for that aggravating his ranking situation even further.

You're giving Murray way too much credit for being able to control any of this! lol! He should be spent by then and IDK if Goffin's going to be that much of a pushover! He's been "coming on" all year; getting into the top 20 earlier this season! :popcorn  :dodgy: :p

He'll pretend to be injured like Federer last year or he'll pay 1,3 M° to ITF

Goffin and Darcis can give a 'surprise' to anyone anytime, they are not easy opponents at all

Goffin is certainly not a walkover, but even an overworked Andy is the favorite.

Yes, but it's not only about Murray or Goffin. U.K. has absolutely nobody besides Murray. So doubles will decide it, or Goffin if he beats Murray.

True. It definitely has potential to be competitive. But I would think England is the favorite in Andy's singles matches and in doubles, as Jamie Murray is a pretty high ranked doubles player.

Jamie actually won Wimbledon before Andy ;) (with some help from Jelena Jankovic)

Everything depends on Andy. No use pretending it doesn't. Murray has to beat both Goffin and Darcis on clay, plus team up with Jamie and take the doubles. Drop any one of those three and Belgium wins.

Andy is 1-0 against Goffin, winning in straight sets at Wimbledon in 2014. They were supposed to meet in the Round of 16 at Rome this year but Andy dropped out.

Andy has never played Darcis.

In doubles, Belgium dropped a set to a depleted Switzerland doubles team and also lost to the doubles point to Argentina. Great Britain (Jamie and Inglot) lost to The Bryans in round one, then The Murrays beat both France and Australia after dropping the opening set each time.

Murray is no slouch on clay of course, so it'l come down to the doubles match.

The 2016 Davis Cup Draw was held yesterday and there are some great match ups in the first round! USA vs. Australia. Great Britain vs. Japan.

Next year's DC will almost be a non-event. With everyone already qualified for Olympics and the schedule getting complicated due to Olympics, it is to be expected that most top 30 players will not be playing in DC next year. So, we could end up with some surprise winner such as Poland.

Let's see... Davis Cup winners in Olympic years. Let's start with 2000

Sydney 2000: Spain
Athens 2004: Spain
Beijing 2008: Spain
London 2012: Czech Republic

What does this mean?

Not much really...
