Serena seemingly has a straightforward path. Stosur and Ana in her quarter will make her take things seriously early. I bet Ana was like damn it when the draw came out. Stosur who knows what will happen there. I find the draw is fairly balanced aside from Aga's portion. Serena should be pleased that Cornet is on the other side of the draw ;). Venus is a tough out as you never know which Venus you will get. Lisicki, Petkovic and Wozniacki could prove nasty for Sharapova if they are on point with their games. Vika has a workable draw if she is feeling better, but I don't know that that will be the case Kuzzy has shown some signs of life.

As 10ns said Simo gets another crack at Sharapova in the QF if the seeds hold. Serena would get Ana or Sam in the QF and Petra in the SF. Genie's path is a little rough. Govortsova, Watson or Cirstea. Later round pitfalls include Makarova, Kuznetsova, Cibulkova, Keys or Vika.

Dannnnggg Maria got a brutal draw. IF the seeds hold that is. Lisicki in the THIRD round. Then Petko or Woz in the fourth and then, and only then, IF she can make it through that will she have to deal with Halep. Meanwhile, Halep seems to have it fairly easy. Venus is in her 16th. And Muguruza. But Muguruza has yet to prove herself on hard courts. She didn't win much this summer. We'll see.

Hoping Sloane can make the most of her draw. She's lost to Jankovic in Montreal and Cincy, so we'll see if she can beat her this time, IF Jankovic makes it that far that is. And IF Sloane makes it that far. She's been terrible for a while. I could see her losing to young Annika Beck in the first round. Or I could see her thumping young Annika Beck. You just never know with her. She has been solid in Montreal and Cincy before her Jankovic losses. So, hopefully she plays her best at this time of the year. Because with her not on Serena's side, I'd love to see her in the final. Of course, that would be really really getting my hopes up seeing as nothing this year has shown that such a thing is even possible. Especially since she doesn't even have a win against Radwanska yet. Or Jankovic for that matter. She struggles to close things out is what I'm starting to think or notice. I've long wondered what her problem is and while people get all up in arms about her attitude, I don't think that's the whole of it. It's definitely a mental thing though.

Anyways, I could see Caro coming through to play Halep if Lisicki takes out Maria. But I can see Petko beating Caro as well, if she's healthy. But I can see Maria beating all of them too.

I love how the WTA website put a breaking news thing: "Serena vs Genie in the QF?"
Serena and Bouchard can't meet until the semis.

I'm done predicting. Here's to a great US Open. Here's to a Serena win.

Kuznetsova, Keys and Vika are all in the other half of the quarter. She could only play one of them. That 16th is loaded, with Vika and Kvitova, Keys and Kuznetsova, Mladenovic could pose a threat to Kvitova in the first round...

I don't really see anyone in Bouchard's 16th bothering her. I'm hoping Svitolina can do some damage. One of the best young ones out there I think. Just hasn't done much at the slams or big tournaments yet. Shvedova is dangerous, but erratic. I love Makarova, but she's not that dangerous. She's erratic too. And Kvitova only lost to her in Montreal or Cincy because she's erratic herself. She buckled down in New Haven and crushed her.

Serena having to play Ana yet again could be an issue. She dealt with her easily in Cincy but Ana may find a way to get back in there the next time or Serena may be having a bad day.

Actually I can see Maria going out before she has to play Halep in the projected q/final.

I don't like Serena having to meet Ana and Stosur. They are dangerous if Serena is not playing well. I rather have her play qualifiers the whole way. Haha.

Did anyone else notice Woz plays Rybarikova in round one? That is bad news. The marathon training is not a good idea for Woz. She needs endurance to play her type of game. All the running might backfire.

I hope somebody sends the screamer home because I have serious doubts Halep can beat Pova.

Uhh...anyone seeing Taylor possibly giving Serena problems in Round 1?
She's always super nervous in her 1st round and getting someone who's excited to be there, young and ready to make a point might make her even more nervous???

Halep has a chance to get her revenge if they do meet in the q/final,still like you I have my doubts that Halep can defeat Maria.Halep should have beaten her in their previous match up.Maria was there for the taking in that match.Halep had her chances and could not put Maria away.

Its a good draw. Winning the USO without breaking the dirty scream mental block would be a hollow result.
The real problem is of course Simo's state. How and if she can bounce back and climb the success horse again. Thats hard to tell. I am not sure.
I'll be honest and say that I dont feel well about Simona chances in this event now. I think she needs few weeks to regroup after her 2 loses. :( Its all in her head.
No player had only good times in their career. There will always be ups and downs.

Simona is not going to win USO period. But, that does not mean she should give up.
She should do better than her previous best, which is easy and try to go as deep as
she can.

likely it won't pan out like that..alot of the top players are a bit erratic at the minute.

Our own draw link:
http://www.tennisfrontier.com/news/wta-tennis/2014-us-open-womens-draw/

1st quarter:
I count 4 slam winners, including Serena who has 5 US open titles(+ 12 more) and Samantha who has one, there is also Ana and Franny.

2nd quarter:
I count 3 slam winners, Petra with her 2 wimby trophies, Svetlana who won here and won French open and finally we have 2 time Aussie champ Vika.

3rd quarter:
I don't see any slam winners!

4th quarter:
I count 2 slam winners although both are multiple winners, Venus and Masha.

So there you have it, 9 total---> previous major winners.
Correct me if I missed someone.

If you say so it must be true. Same as saying "Serena will win all 4 slams in 2014" before the year started  ;)
It makes the same sense. We never learn

Last of the qualifying will be contested today, that's the third round.
Oudin will play Barty.

There is also a Chinese match-up and Rodionova vs. Hogenkamp.

I never said "Serena will win all 4 slams in 2014". When you reply to my message and
put that in quotes, it gives a wrong impression that I said so.

You are "slandering" my reputation. Do you know that slandering is not allowed
as per the new guidelines of Tennis Froniter. ;)

Just looking closely at Sharapova's first couple of matches
Her match against Kirilenko will be a tricky match.Maria hasnt been playing all that well in the lead up tournaments prior to the USO.
