Hoping the weather forecast is better tomorrow.

Next couple of days will be a bunch of rain breaks it looks like...

Nothing worse than watching a tournament play catch up. Blooming rain.

Murat1972 shared photos for our photoblog of some top players practicing in Toronto, which you can see here.

He actually snagged one with Murray and Mauresmo in the same shot.

No worries. Murray was hitting really hard with David. He looked good. Mauresmo looked even better..;)

Hopefully Hewitt just got soundly beaten and isn't injured as that's a beatdown in terms of score (didn't watch it) and he says he's one injury away from retirement.

While homogenization of the courts are happening to some degree or the other, the ball situation is going the other way...I mean the Penn ATP they use here in Toronto (and probably at Cincy as well) is so different from the Wilson Us Open balls. So these guys play two serious tournaments leading up to the Open with one ball, and then a different ball awaits them there...

I wish they could come to an agreement and have the same balls throughout the North American swing.

That would certainly make more sense. I assumed the US Open Series would use the same balls as the US Open, but I was wrong.

Jo Willy looking quite alright out there at the moment.

How many times do we see that? Underdog hangs with favourite throughout first set, loses it narrowly, gets upset, loses second set in a flash with a couple of rackets thrown around for good measure.

Still, reasonably impressed by Tsonga, he should make it to play Djokovic in R3 but I don't think we'll see a very different outcome than we got in Paris and Wimby.

That is exactly why they don't do it.

And that is exactly what I was going to add to my post if I wasn't too lazy to edit :p

Jerzy boy let off after Polansky served for the set, into a tie break.

And after saving 2 SP's, Jerzy cannot save the 3rd. Drops the opening breaker 7-5

JJ is just a turd... another hyped player without the technical skills (or brain function) to be a top player.

It's always bugged me why Janowicz doesn't just hit a normal second serve instead of going all out for the free point so often.

He has hit 9 double faults today and, according to the ATP website, he has hit 244 aces and 191 double faults so far this year, and won 46% of second serve points. Those aren't numbers which suggest taking such a big risk on his second serve so often is paying off for him.

Compare that to the other big fellas:
Raonic: 650 aces, 118 double faults, 54% second serve points won.
Isner: 677 aces, 72 double faults, 57% second serve points won.
Karlovic: 811 aces, 122 double faults, 54% second serve points won.

I know these guys are all better than Jerzy all round this year but his ace/DF ratio looks horrible for a man of his height.

Polansky is through to the next round and the big mouth is out in the first round. :nono

Methinks there will be much singing of "O' Canada" this week!
