Roger seems prophetic given his interview before YEC a couple weeks ago about how things could go really badly the last couple weeks and ruin his chance to have a decent season...

Which begs the question, "why kill himself to win a meaningless semi-final over Wawrinka last week?" It just makes no sense! Roger's supposed to be the most cerebral player out there; vapor locked in this situation of the last couple weeks! What was more important; retrieving #1 ranking, winning the WTF, or preparing for this Davis Cup Final? Obviously Federer was "all at sea" in this instance and wanted it all!

I really think that might have been the cause of all the fuss. Stan being angry at roger for risking it.

Well he isn't THAT prophetic to know that it'd be a 3 hour brutal semi vs. Wawrinka. And the YEC should be a big goal for him, means more to his resume than DC does even though he probably wants this DC more than another YEC just because of how big it is for the country.

I'd strongly disagree. He has never won DC, and it might be more prestigious than wtf I think.

You can never underestimate Le Monf's ability to chuck a lead. It's like saying, this time snow won't melt in a hot summer. It's gonna melt. It always does....

^ It's a team contest. As much as people poke fun at Roger winning gold in doubles vs. singles it should also be noted that he is probably way happier to win a doubles gold medal than he was to win one YEC (not the record 6 total). But for his singles career the YEC is more prestigious than DC because that's an individual achievement. Roger has an excellent DC record for his career but hasn't won one while guys like Berd and Stepanek have...that tells you what you need to know about DC.

Fed is looking more competitive now. If Gael goes into clown mode, this could be fun.

Hmm break point for Gael.

...and if it all backfires on him, it will be the biggest blunder I can think of; no #1 ranking retrieval, no tournament win, then exacerbates his back so that now he's in danger of losing badly in a DC final! :nono :puzzled :( :cover

^ Well safe to say it has backfired. I think Stan is going to have to win doubles somehow (very unlikely) otherwise this final is in the books. If he is getting blown out by the clown then I don't see a magic recovery for Tsonga.
