Do you think he can recover in time, Darth? i mean, this is obviously a serious injury or he would have showed on Sunday, right? he withdrew because he's injured. Even Lazarus would have skipped the DC match with Babylon, but Federer is looking to rise again and play? Can he seriously have recovered enough to win 2 matches in 3 days?

I think he'll play and beat Monfils, because Monfils is the kinda bloke who could go up 2 sets and 4 breaks of serve in the third, forget what score it is, forget what city he's in and what his own name is, and what end of the racket to hit the ball with, and drop every single point from there on in, even if he was playing a blind man. And this maybe enough for Switzerland, if Stan takes down JW.

But Federer has to be huge question mark even to participate. The timing is woeful for him, but it'll be interesting to see what happens. So far, Stan is doing his bit, up a set against the Frenchman...

Well we will see. If we take his word that his back was bad for most of last year it might be a case where he is playing at a similar level to 2013. I'm sure with all the treatment and rest it is likely better off than it was Sunday. Wait and see, but Stan looks poised to get the big win here, one I kind of expected to go France's way.

Double break for Stan. He's striking a fairly decisive blow for the Swiss...

Good statement for Stan here! I don't think the whole public spat last weekend will affect Federer's mindset but I was curious to see how Stan would react to the bitter loss and the issues with Federer and the wolf Mirka.

:snigger Well she is a wolf it seems. I figured she wasn't as sweet as she sometimes appears but I had no idea she was capable of what she did. It is bad, no sugarcoating it but kind of makes her more intriguing, no?

Steve Tignor jinxed France . He got the WTF right. The chances of he getting two tourneys right is next to nil.

An interesting news from the article is that Mirka has chosen not to go to Lillie, France at all. It is not clear as to whether this was pre-planned or is a result of Mirkagate.

It would be fun if Switzerland wins the tourney and then Mirka goes public saying, the only reason I heckled Stan is to make him match tough for the crazy environment he will face in France. :dodgy:

The curse of Tignor... Damn. Damn. Damn:devil

Yes absolutely. I'm still shocked about the whole episode.

All the pressure is on Gael. No!:nono

Yeah, it's not really his scene, is it? Gael is more a "let's have a crazee energy partay and dance about the bunting" kinda bloke. Asking him to sit still and study the consequences seems soooo unfair... :nono

Well he came through very comfortably! Now it's all up to Roger! If he wins, both top players can rest; otherwise Stan will have to do double duty! :dodgy:

Wouldn't it be ironic if Roger fails here? And considering between the two of them Roger's been the crybaby in his career.. Mirka get back in your box! Allez Stan! :)

As for the comments of many here and in the media about Mirka, I can only share what I have seen. At the Miami Open f/k/a the Lipton she has been personable and mingled with the crowds--right down to standing in a long line to get ice cream. I approached and chatted with her and she was not condescending or put off; I just happened to be right next to her in another parallel line (we were both at the end). I walked by the area where the players and friends sit and waved and she smiled and waved back. So, there likely is an edge to her during match time, but that is the heat of the moment. My experience is that she can be pleasant--and more attractive than she looks on television.

I'm sure she's wonderful, Shawn. I always admired Mirka and felt for her, because she's sitting there suffering through every point. Sure, there's been more good times than bad. but even they come at a price. I think she's been a model in the players box and even what occurred last weekend is chump change in the scheme of things. So Stanley was offended. Crybaby. He shoulda known she'd be up for her man...

I can attest to the same. Very lovely and warm, and I know other people who've met her too. That's what I find so shocking. There've been many times I've sat within site of the box, and I've never seen any gesturing or noise or anything. It's really odd!

I only half-heartedly noticed Stan gesticulating toward his right! I didn't know what it was all about until later; a huge kerfuffle! Either way, I just thought it was unfortunate; esp. with a pending DC final to deal with on the fly so soon!
