As Clément said "We have to beat Switzerland, not Federer"...I totally agree with him, it's a country vs country competition. Federer there or not won't change anything, he never played DC anyway
France is favourite with or without king of drama...I pity Stan nevertheless, he's a great guy and has always been involved in DC, he 'ld deserve a better feeling and atmosphere in Lille

Agree with Clement's words regarding defeating Switzerland.I have never been a fan of Wawrinka, though I have always admired his commitment in playing DC for Switzerland.

^ Don't speak sense to Isabelle. I struggle to remember a year where Roger has not played at least one DC match.

Ah, thought he had played last year. Regardless I'd say missing 2 of the past 12+ years (probably closer to 15 if he played in 2000 - 2002) isn't too bad given he has had more important things to chase, things beyond the likes of Stanley. Djokovic and Nadal have definitely missed at least one year of the past 10.

You'll have to find someone else to hate once Roger is gone...

Actually, Roger Federer was one of the players who were given a "commitment award"
by the ITF in recognition of their demonstrated commitment based on the number of ties
they participated in. This award is not based on performance in DC ties, just based on
participation. Also, this is not a popularity contest. I have provided a link to that effect
earlier. I will do so again when I get time.

Also, if I remember right, neither Rafa nor Novak has got this award.

:nono You should know better: I don't hate anybody, especially in sports. I might only miss Nole when he retires.

I don't think Federer will ever retire.;)

Why did you post this in response to my citing the fact that Roger did not play a DC match in those two years?

Thanks for posting the link. Yes, I am wrong about Nole.

But, the interesting thing is that there is a wide spread perception that Rog does not
represent Switzerland much in DC unlike Rafa. But, the funny thing is that Rog has
this award, but not Rafa. This is a classic example of how perception can be very
different from actual reality.

Federer avoided the practise courts on Monday / Tuesday.

the newly minted YE world No2 is hoping to get some claytime in on Wednesday.

A pity Stanimal isn't French...I'ld like him to win DC, he really deserves it
