In the Final, Switzerland would NEED to win the doubles, because France will probably get at least one singles win each

No matter who France choose (Tsonga/Monfils or Tsonga/Gasquet), they have a good chance of beating Wawrinka twice.

And Federer obviously is very shaky vs Tsonga in particular, and a bit shaky vs Monfils (but a lot more clutch than Monfils obviously). Whereas its hard to imagine Gasquet doing anything versus Federer.

If its Roland Garros, I guess Gasquet would be ok, as he almost beat Wawrinka at Roland Garros last year 6-7(5), 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 8-6.......but again Gasquet won't have a chance vs. Federer.

To be fair, Stan has just as good of a chance at beating Tsonga, Monfils, or Gasquet. For all those players, so much of it is which version of them shows up.

NADAL2005RG, LOL at France playing at Roland Garros. You realize the temperature in Paris in November? I can't see it being there personally unless there's a massive global warming.

I read on tennis.com that the French are looking into a bigger venue, possible at Lille, surface unknown, though Tsonga said that doesn't matter much, since all the players involved can play on any surface...

SO, Spain does not qualify despite its depth ATP ranking charts?:puzzled

Spain gets booted to the zonal groups now after 18 years of continuous
existence in the world group.

Except for India-Serbia Tie (in which the fifth live rubber is temporarily suspended due to
rain), all other World Group Play off results have come in.

The winners are as follows. Congrats all of them.

1. USA
2. Canada
3. Australia
4. Brazil
5. Croatia
6. Argentina
7. Belgium.

Plus I think France would have a better chance of winning on hardcourt.
Federer is a great Roland Garros player.
Tsonga would feel very confident on hardcourt vs both Swiss.
Monfils would have an increased chance on hardcourt too, and is coming off his best US Open ever :clap

There is no way that tie will be held at Roland Garos, due to the weather in Paris at that time of year, from what I have read they are looking at Lille as a possibility.

I don't see how anything but indoor HC is an option in France in December, as it would be in Switzerland. Indoor clay? Eww. Anyway, Roger and Stan are both great/very good on clay.

Great win for Brazil at home. I'd have liked to see Spain get through, but it takes the pressure off of Rafa to play DC, at least until the next WG play-offs. I hope they give Moya time to develop as a DC captain. He certainly had his "C" team.

I think as Tsonga said the surface is not that much important for this tie. Most of the players
involved from both countries are great/good on almost all surfaces.

As some other poster pointed out, many of the players involved have multiple personalities
and this tie will be decided based on which of these personalities show up for the tie.

Here is an interesting tidbit: Since 1980, Swiss have won ALL their away ties against
France and have lost ALL their home ties against France and this is an away tie.

^ I wonder how many of those away ties featured Federer and Wawrinka.
Not that it matters either way, as stats like that are clearly coincidental, and not based on Swiss people having a tendency to become greater when they enter France :laydownlaughing

Not many probably since the stat is since 1980 and Roger was only born in 1981 and Stan in 1985!
