Finally a final to look forward to. France face a tough decision what surface to choose. Indoor clay, or the fastest indoor hard? I would chose the latter. If Tsonga's serve is on, he could definitely beat Federer, he's already done this in Toronto. As for Wawrinka, fast indoor hard is probably he's weakest surface. If France choose clay, both Fed and Stan will feel comfortable. And please no Gasquet this time. He will be roasted by the Swiss. Go with Tsonga and Monfils in singles.

Nothing against Tsonga (who I like but he annoys me how he's failed to achieved more) but Federer was hardly playing that well in Toronto in that final. Again, it was a great to see Tsonga winning a decent title but he beat a flat as a pancake disinterested Djokovic, so-so erratic Murray and far from spectacular Federer in the final even by his declining standards. Put it this way, did Federer serve like he did in the Wimbledon final that day? No. Did he return well? No. All he did well was volley but the rest of his game was sub par that day and Tsonga wasn't amazing either, just more consistent in every department except the net.

Sure, Tsonga has and can beat Federer but if the latter serves even remotely better than he did in Toronto he should win on indoor hard. Wawrinka is definitely the Swiss weak link. Formidable when playing well but we haven't seen that version of Stan in more than a handful of matches this year.

I prefer Monfils, but if they choose Gasquet at least he will be confident on clay because last year he came within 8-6 fifth set of beating Wawrinka.

But I think they will go with Monfils and hardcourt :)

Yeah even though Tsonga can beat Federer, and even though Monfils had 2 match points on Federer at the US Open, I think France would be more expectant of beating Wawrinka twice and of course winning the doubles :clap
Beating Federer would be more of a bonus (but in no way a surprise).

Monfils is 2-2 vs. Wawrinka.

Simon is 1-2 vs. Wawrinka and their last meeting was a close win for Wawrinka 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2 at Roland Garros 2012. Simon won 6-4, 6-4 at Indian Wells 2012.

Despite Monfils having match points on Federer, is Simon still more likely to beat Federer?

This is surely embarassing for India. Despite Novak, Tipsy and Troiki not participating,
they lost a home tie to Serbia's C team.

I think basically the blame should fall on Somdev; he is supposed to deliver two singles
victories and he delivered only one. Funnily, he did not lose to Dusan the higher ranked
player and instead lost to Filip, the lower ranked player.

Nobody expected Yuki to deliver anything. The doubles team was expected to win
and they held their end of the bargain.

Anyway, this win spares Novak of any hatred from his fellow countrymen for
coming up with "tired" excuse.

I'd still put it on indoor clay if I was France. If Roger shows up and plays decent on indoor hards that is 2 wins. Putting it on clay gives them a chance in every single matchup. The downside is Wawrinka is very comfortable on clay but if I'm France I'd rather target Roger's weakness instead of avoiding Wawrinka's strength (surface wise).

Yeah that's why I asked

Valencia starts in a few days. I'm guessing it's scheduling that kept him out. I find nothing about injury.

Nonsense, Valencia is scheduled for 20th of October as it is part of indoor hc swing.

This is true. I was looking up Ferrer for news, and I saw an article about Valencia and the 18th, and so I didn't look further.

Still, I heard an interview with Moya last Spring, and he talked about Rafa and Ferrer and the difficulty of getting them due to scheduling.

Can't wait for this DC's final, the most exciting event of this end of year. Clément said that surface has to be chosen after some meetings with players and FFT. If I was him I'ld chose clay but I'm not him...hope France'll be lucky this time

I want France to choose fast hardcourt so Wawrinka loses both singles matches :clap
They are the favorite for the doubles.

It's not clear to me that Wawrinka is at a disadvantage on fast hard court. Perhaps Tsonga will have the edge on him on that surface, but hardly Gasquet or even Monfils.

Is your worship of Nadal, such that you have to position yourself against the Swiss? Or do you have a genuine appreciation for the French players? Lol!

Do you even need to ask. I'm guessing Nadal2005RG is one of those Wafa fans who actually think it's some gap in Roger's resume not to have a Davis Cup title.

On fast hard court Roger is the clear favorite over Tsonga and a big favorite over Gasquet or Wawrinka. Given home court I'd give Tsonga the edge over Stan but Stan would be clear favorite over Gasquet or Monfils.

To be fair, Somdev is ranked lower than both Lajovic and Krajinovic.
Lajovic was 61, Krajinovic 107 and Deverman 144. Therefore, I do not consider this results as a big surprise.
