I was expecting del potro and dimitrov to play Tuesday..but the tourney website has them playing Wednesday,

on wed Federer is playing his 2nd rd match before dimitrov plays his 1st rd match.

They're giving the guys who were in finals this weekend an extra day to recover, such as Haase, Dimitrov, and Gasquet. Not sure why they've put off JMDP's opening match, though.

sounds a bit mental :s

lets say fed wins on Wednesday, he will be in 3rd rd, and his potential 3rd rd opponent (dimitrov) will not even have played his 1st rd match.

maybe an error on the website ???, that sounds crazier than the u s open 1st rd being played over 3days.

Poor performance from Stan and Birdie, both of them played poorly. Maybe they don't feel like going to London after all ?? Motivation is the key of everything
Birdie hasn't won a single tourney in 2013 if my memory is good, hope he can "wake up" in Bercy

^^ Add Reeshard to that list. He just laid an egg in straights against his fellow countryman Llodra.

Wow...maybe they just wanted to save themselves for Paris for one final push? Here is a quote from the ATP website:

"Any points Federer earns at his hometown tournament, the Swiss Indoors Basel, will be a straight add to his Emirates ATP Race To London points total. His rivals in action this week - Tomas Berdych, Stanislas Wawrinka, Richard Gasquet and Tommy Haas - all have a best 18th result worth 90 points and must minimally reach the semi-finals to add to their totals."

Maybe they did not want to push for semis...I don't know.

That makes sense actually. Not much to be gained at Basel, whereas a good showing in Paris will matter. With Berdych out of the way, Federer has a decent shot at reaching the finals. Curious as to how invested DP is in defending his title here. He is really good indoors, so why not invest at delivering in Paris? Good opportunity to win a Masters event.

It will be much easier for Delpo to win here in Basel than in Paris. He can make a push for the top 4 by the end of the season, his goals should be different than all the others who lost. I would be disappointed if he would not try.

That's true. Basel is easier than Paris. But Basil is no Paris: not a Masters event.

Agreed that his priorities in terms of rankings are different. Still, it's not really a no brainer as Paris might be a really good opportunity to win a Masters crown. Then again, this year more than ever the Djokovic, Nadal, and even Federer might be invested in making a good showing in Paris.

That is why I think he should make the most of Basel. I am not worried for him he will not get a master title in the end. If he plays well week in and week out, there will be plenty of opportunities.

'MagicFederer :emperor: gazes into his evil orb and somehow makes Reeeeeechard Gasquet lose, futher increasing his wtf hopes..:laydownlaughing

so federers 'Magic Orb' has seen off berdych, gasquet, big stan, and he has also got his magic orb to make Tsonga not play in either 500 tourney.

the message is clear..don't mess with Federer and his magic orb..so mote it be. :emperor:

After dropping the opener to Istomin 4-6, Rog roars back 6-3 6-2. Maybe his magic orb is working Darth.

So, I just caught the last 2 games of the Federer-Istomin match. Anyone saw the first set where Istomin won? Last 2 games was not enough of a sample size to see how he played. Good thing he came back though. He needs to gain some confidence.
