Just as a reminder Nadal needs 306 points to clinch the year end no 1. A win today will ensure 240 points. So he'll only need one win after that .

Leaving aside the Nadal narrative, if we didn't know either of these players, we'd be even more impressed with Ferrer. His attitude always gets a mention and today it's the same. He might win this one - and surely lose tomorrow - but his fight throughout is exemplary...

Well looking at his group in London, he could theoretically go 3-0

His game fits Bercy very well. I must say I am impressed about the level of aggressiveness he's displaying at the moment. Almost like Davydenko. He should do it more.

Very possible alright but it's indoor so those guys he normally beats soundly have a better than average chance of winning as we're seeing today.

Yeah, Davydenko is a good spot. Baffling and unravelling Rafa quite easily at the moment. To be fair, all week Rafa has been lopping it short, but Daveed is very clinical in his play...

I get that, but he's playing an inspired Ferrer who has something to play for (defending his title).

Ferrer always has something to play for, but I do agree in general. I expect Rafa to really go for gold next week...

Yes, he's trying. He's very trying. :snigger

Seriously? Of course he is. He just hasn't clicked, and Ferrer is taking good advantage...

I'm almost interested to watch this gruntfest now. What's the score now? Too many tabs open and extracting loads of rars so I'm lagged to *&$@

Moxie's poll is David's motivation. Never underestimate the heart of a defending champion. ;)
Actually it shoudn't come as a surprise. David ran him incredibly close in Madrid and Rome and I figured he would have a serious shot to win this if Nadal doesn't change gears. David was desperate to beat Berdych to get the chance to finally put the Rafa monkey off his back. I also doubt Nadal will lose much sleep over it. Another important 360 points for him with the chance to close it out in London with 2 wins in his group.

He is playing too tentatively and a bit short, but David is on-fire and he has the right game plan. He is committed to showing up people who think he won last year by virtue of diminished competition. (And me, for underestimating him. But if you watched their respective matches yesterday, you wouldn't have predicted this. Clearly I didn't. See poll. )
