I think she played a great semi and if she plays like she did against Errani....50th will be hers.

I have learned what Serena wants to happen and what actually happens are sometimes 2 different things. She will have to be consistent, and the only match in the tournament that that happened was against Kirilenko. All others have been weird yoyo bouts with her. If she comes out focused from start to finish the match is hers. Clay gives Maria more time for her shots, and of the two Maria is usually the more consistent off the ground. Holding serve will be key which Serena has again only managed to go one match with no breaks. I don't discount Maria; she can be a tough customer.

Serena impressed me with her s/final win against Errani
Serena needs to bring her serve to the final where she gets easy points
On this surface in Madrid I pick Serena in 2 sets

Exciting match with the top ranking and streaks on the line. Does Serena's streak of beating Pova end or Pova's clay win streak end? I think it will be close, possibly a three setter. I give a slight edge to Serena to win, although her loss would not surprise me. She cannot exploit Pova's movement as much on this slow surface. That may make all the difference.

lets not forget the mental aspect of this match pova might not believe she can win which will be her downfall...plus Serena beat her at this event last year.

This surface was much faster last year and the aces and service winners were a bit easier to come by.

Both my predictions went wrong in the semis even if Serrani was close. What about 3rd time lucky - Maria in 3 sets. As another pointed out it's on red clay so why not. Maria has been fighting the whole week and played some good tennis in between. All in all I just hope for a good final:) Maybe shots like this:

Maria down a double break early 4-0. Similar to their other matches she's on her heels.

Serena in straight sets.. She will always beat Sharapova because as I said it numerous times before, Pova has a plan A.. hit the ball hard.. if plan A is not working .. plan B is to hit the ball harder and go for broke.. also Pova is not good at creating her on angles with is just like putting herself into Serena's firing range powerful strokes..Serena does all the things that I just mention better.. Just a bad matchup for Pova overall..

Yep Sunday,
Serena gets lazy w/ her footwork, Masha steps it up and has the early break 2-0

Ruh roh, 0-40 on Maria's serve brings 3 MP's

Serena only needs one and forces the Masha error. Takes the match 6-1 6-4 and congrats to winning a red clay tournament after a decade.

Yay Serena wins! First red clay title in over a decade! Now go on and win the big one in a couple of weeks! Serena has defended both of her clay titles. Which until this year, she has never defended on clay. She is also the first woman to defend her Madrid title!
