Great start for Caroline in Beijing 63 61. Improvement in her gameplay - see the stats here:

Her FH, BH, serve and netplay has improved. FH not perfect yet but it's ok. Time for a Carlsberg. Go get'm Caroline - let the sun shine over Beijing :clap

No chance of any sun in Beijing, it's cloudy all year round, clouds of smog that is :(.

Caro hit 24 winners against 6 unforced errors? Are these numbers right?

Caro gets Sloane next, then the winner will most probably get Serena.

The strange numbers continue today, Venus won 1 point off the Sabine first serve! Venus had no break chances!?! How is that possible?

Angie and Na are playing, I will post scores once those matches are completed.

Venus was dreadful today. Had no serve whatsoever, and generally brought nothing to the court. It's going to be her problem from now on, consistently bringing it. The problem is when she is without her serve, she's pretty much without a chance vs anyone good.

She's going to be a nightmare potential draw for anyone chasing Istanbul in Moscow though.

Not just the Williams Isabelle. She usually plays to the level of her opponent. She's great at lifting her game to beat a top player, but is sometimes woeful against players ranked below her.

Well Serena and Venus give Sabine exactly what she wants pace. Sabine usually has a much harder time against players who mix the pace up on her. One win against Serena doesn't make her an expert.

I don't consider Sabine a top gun. She can enter that conversation when she starts making the quarters, semis and finals of tournaments a bit more consistently than she has. She certainly is a threat and can take anyone out on any given day, but she is also just as likely to flake out. She and Petra must be good friends.

Regardless of Venus' results, she is a living legend and a wonderful ambassador of the sport.

I am picking Sloane over Woz. Great to see Li holding up under the pressure. Schiavone is just amazing. I think she has the most beautiful game on tour. What a shame she ran into Serena so early. I would have loved to see her play another few rounds.

Lisicki is a one surface player and will continue to be a spoiler at Wimbledon. She beat a tired Na li 2011,beat a tired pova in 2012,beat a tired Serena in 2013...these players had played a tiring clay court schedule and she was hiding her lazy ass in Florida.

I think Serena might be feeling used by Patrick to get deals ....something seems not right in the Williams Patrick camp.
I hope she detach herself from Patrick in 2014..she won slams and many titles without Patrick and he probably forced her to go to China.Serena usually shuts down after the Open...its time for Patrick to go.

Serena makes her schedule not Patrick. I don't know what her deal is, but she is super emotional this tournament. I would have thought she would have mellowed out having finished on a high winning the US Open. I hope she tweaks her schedule a bit next year like cutting out Charleston, and I would say no tournament after Wimbledon. I mean she was really screaming at herself during that Schiavone match not to mention the racket smash in doubles. Girl, it will be ok just go home and hug on Chip.
