Speaking of talent, has Jabeur over-achieved or something, but's come back to the pack? She's out in San Jose! Kudermetov finished her off! :shushing-face:
If you have watched Ons on a HC before, you would know it is a surface that is not suited to her, her game translates to grass and clay for starters.I am not surprised she lost to Kudermetova in straight sets

Losing a maiden slam final can have a different affect on players. Look at how Coco is taking it. I like what she said to the press. It's hard to watch Iga lifting that trophy and celebrating w/ her team on court. Will Ons feel that way or will she have a letdown and play like crap for a few months?

I dont think HC suits Ons game quite frankly, she had a great chance to win at Wimbledon and went walkabout in the 2nd set and never recovered.Ons has not looked that good in San Jose, lets see how she goes in Toronto
BTW Ons did not have her team with her in San Jose

I understand HC is not her best surface. But frankly with her it will come down to attitude no matter what surface she is on for the next few months. You're right, let's see what she has on offer in Canada and NY.

I agree with Margaret the HC is not playing into her strengths or she wasn't able to execute her game today vs Kudermetova..

3 DFs from Coco Gauff serving for the 1st set and we are back on serve against Paula Badosa 5 games all 1st set in San Jose
The 2nd serve can be ' a achilles heel' for Coco

6 games all....t/break for the 1st set....a aggressive t/break played by both players, again Coco and her DF at critical time in the t/break let her down
Badosa 1st set 76 (4)

Coco's fhand breaking down and could go down a double break in the 2nd set
Badosa with a double break now leads 4-1 2nd set

This is the old Coco from 2 years ago. I didn't think we would ever see her again, but she is back and has pushed her way to the front of Gauff's brain. Just an UFE machine right now. Really disappointing to have this meltdown after the promising first set.

Might have been a different match if she served out the 1st set,

Most definitely. Paula would have made a push like Naomi did last night but I suspect Coco would have handled it. Now, this whole thing is moot.
Just tuning into this. Did Coco expend all of her emotional energy last night? I like Badosa, but was surprised by the second set scoreline. Good win from Badosa, I guess.

Well if she had been flat from the get go, I would have said yes, but it's quite the contrary. She was up a break twice in the opener. Served for the set and had SP when the service yips plagued her. After she dropped the TB she just gave up and didn't really try to fight back. I'm not disappointed in the loss, but more in the way she executed.

Thanks for the assessment. That IS disappointing.

Sabalenka out there dropping an entire set’s worth of points in double faults. I get games can go off but not that far off. Girl go back to the challengers until you can get it together to not be taking the space of someone who won’t serve a double fault or unforced error every other point.
