WTA statement on postponement of 2020 Montreal event.

"The Coupe Rogers in Montreal will postpone their event to 2021",a WTA spokesperson said.
"The WTA reiterates that health and safety will always be the top priority. We understand this was a difficult decision and we look forward to being back in Montreal in 2021".

Given that Men and Women alternate between Montreal and Toronto, if ATP is actually conducting Rogers Tourney in Toronto, in 2021 both would want to play in Montreal.

The fact that WTA postponed to 2021 instead of cancelling tells me that they are more or less sure that ATP event in Toronto will also do the same this year and postpone their event to 2021.

At present the Ontario Government has not released any statement regarding public event cancellation's in Toronto.

The current WTA freeze also applies to any time-sensitive ranking records and milestones such as weeks at No1 or weeks in the Top10.

Mary Pierce.

Nope, she was inducted just last year. I am not impressed with her play even in that slam that she won.

That was a rhetorical question. Although I have not fact checked I think there is none.

At any rate, I think Tennis Hall of Fame has become a joke. They should go some years without inducting anybody if there
are no deserving candidates. Instead, they want to induct somebody or other every year thus going to the bottom of the
totem pole.

Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova do not want to play in front of empty stands.
All tour events have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, and alternatives for restarting competition including holding tournaments with no spectators.

"Tennis minus fans dosen't work we enjoy the big stages so much because of the incredible passions the fans brings."
"Otherwise tennis would be a different sport." Halep told DPA International.

Kvitova agreed with her fellow Grand Slam champion."I think the fans are too important. It's an individual sport, that's why the fans have such an impact for us." she said.

I wonder if Sharapova will "unretire" now especially if players may not resume play until later in the year.

Personally I cannot see Maria come back to the tour regardless if the tour resumes later in the year. Her current ranking of No 366 in the world and her continued shoulder problems and her age are big factors.
