This time, the goal is two matches. :snicker
If it's two matches it will mean that Jimmy has done a good job because it will mean that Genie has won her first match at the USO, which the way she is going would be an achievement of epic proportions. :) Seriously though, bitching about Bouchard has become rather lame imo. You don't kick someone when the're down.

Actually, I was joking about Connors as a coach vs. bitching about Bouchard.

No longer just a rumor. She has confirmed it - she has jumpers knee.

"Shortly before the US Open, Caroline Wozniacki cuts short her practice session" by @johasger http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_s...aening/5707154

NEW YORK - Caroline Wozniacki practised early in the afternoon for 45 minutes with her Polish friend Agnieszka Radwanska in New York before she quickly went inside to get help for her injured knee from the physiotherapist.

Several times during practice, and especially during serving practice where she pushes off with her left leg, she grabbed her knee, which has been giving her problems for several years in a small area around the meniscus.

It's an injury that comes and goes with various degrees of seriousness. and became worse during Friday's semi-final in New Haven against Petra Kvitova.

"It's difficult to treat because Caroline doesn't really have enough fluid in that area of the knee, and it bothered her today. Now she's getting treatment, and that will hopefully help," explained Piotr Wozniacki.

Caroline Wozniacki will luckily not play before Tuesday at the earliest, when she meets the American wild card Jamie Loeb.

Caroline Wozniacki reveals she has "jumper's knee" (patellar tendonitis) by @johasger http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_s...erknae/5707267

NEW York: Caroline Wozniacki has from time to time lived with a stabbing pain in the outer part of her knee for a couple of years now, and she's had a small piece of tape over her kneecap which she's up to now described as a preventive measure.

Now she reveals the diagnosis, and it's no joking matter.

"I have jumper's knee. There are two bones which rub up against each other," she said after her first practice round at the US Open, where she clutched her knee several times, and went for treatment by the physiotherapist afterwards.

"But it feels fine when I tape it up," she added, and explained that the tape pulls the injured area across the kneecap so the bones don't rub against each other.

During the international press conference on Saturday, she was asked several times about the knee which gave her problems during Friday's semi-final in New Haven, but each time the answer was the same: "The knee's fine."

She repeated this to Ekstra Bladet.

"Against a player like Petra Kvitova, the ball comes at you so hard and flat and deep and with so much pace, and you can really feel it. But I still have a few days to train a bit and get ready. It won't hinder me in any way.

"It's not an injury that hinders my training and playing matches, and I don't see it as anything serious at all."

Several solutions have been tried, such as injections, but to no avail. But to the question of whether more radical solutions will be required soon, she answered:

"Not in the near future in any case. Then we'll have to see," hinting that she's willing to live with the jumper's knee for the rest of her active career.

I was commenting on the bitching in my own first sentence. ;)

Indeed. I knew that there would be a price to pay for that and said so before the event. And yet, as a Woz fan it was one of my prouder moments when she crossed that finishing line in such a good time. It was perhaps the first time that tennis fans universally loved Wozniacki. Many rarely have anything positive to say about her, but on that day everyone agreed that she had represented the tennis community very well. It's not much perhaps, but beggers can't be choosers. :)

That news sucks. I've always wanted Woz to win at least one Slam during her career since she has been so successful on the tour over the years. That window is closing but I was thinking she still would have a few chances but with this knee problem who knows. I've never even heard of "jumpers knee." Will have to google it.
Well, at this point it's not yet news. It's only a rumor. Let's hope for the best.

Jumper's knee (patellar tendinopathy, patellar tendinosis, patellar tendinitis) commonly occurs in athletes who are involved in jumping sports such as basketball and volleyball. Patients report anterior knee pain, often with an aching quality. The symptom onset is insidious. Rarely is a discrete injury described. Usually, involvement is infrapatellar at or near the infrapatellar pole, but it may also be suprapatellar.

Depending on the duration of symptoms, jumper's knee can be classified into 1 of 4 stages, as follows:

Stage 1 – Pain only after activity, without functional impairment

Stage 2 – Pain during and after activity, although the patient is still able to perform satisfactorily in his or her sport

Stage 3 – Prolonged pain during and after activity, with increasing difficulty in performing at a satisfactory level

Stage 4 – Complete tendon tear requiring surgical repair

It begins as inflammation in the patellar tendon where it attaches to the patella and may progress by tearing or degenerating the tendon. Patients present with an ache over the patella tendon. Most patients are between 10 and 16 years old. Magnetic resonance imaging can reveal edema (increased T2 signal intensity) in the proximal aspect of the patellar tendon.

Thanks jhar. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Don't do that often. You will get Crosser's Finger Syndrome.

I am not sure there is too much to worry about with regard to her knee. My daughter suffered knee pain when serving because she jumps up to make contact. She started wearing a knee brace, and the pain stopped immediately. Woz should wear one whenever on court. Kirilenko always had a knee band, if people remember.

True. But reports about her having to interrupt training sessions because of that knee can't be a good thing.

I don't know why people have a problem with Connors being a coach. He did ok with Roddick and with Sharapova he didn't get the chance since it lasted for only one match. Of course Connors was a controversial figure, but he was also a never say die warrior. If just a bit of that rubs off on Genie it can only be a good thing for her.

Connnors will last at least 3 sets, as Genie has taken a set now.

Connors works his magic already. Genie has won and she actually played pretty well. :) Baby steps under the guidance of the master. :clap

Wozniacki is still only 25. She still has time to get back up there and win a Slam. With Serena looking iffy, it's going to be a free-for-all until Bencic-Muguruza take over.

Yeah she had a great year but she just seemed to be barely hanging on and really stressed out the whole time, battling the flu, nerves, etc. She's still the one to beat no doubt about it but I've always wondered if her decline will come suddenly and swiftly. Maybe that time has come.

But then again, Serena has proved me wrong more times than I can remember so who knows?

I beg to differ. She has already been YE #1 twice in a row and has not managed to win a GS. Moreover the last time she was ranked #1 is so far in the past. Most importantly, her counterpunching game is not going to win her a GS. I was little hopeful of her becoming a force again after her sudden improvement in the summer of 2014 leading up to USO finals. But, she could not capitalize on it and make a good year out of 2016.

I am sorry her GS boat has sailed long ago. :nono
