Caroline Wozniacki ‏@CaroWozniacki 42 min

Got my bib for the race today! Almost time for the @nycmarathon!! Race day is Sunday

10729383_539719222829661_1848088331_n.jpg

She's collected over $50000 for the rrkids

For anyone completing a marathon is such a monumental achievement. I think everyone is wondering what the "x" factor was that made Caro's game change so drastically for the better in the latter half of the season.

For me I think it's sexist and ridiculous to think it was her breakup.

I can't help but wonder if the marathon training had something to do with it? If so I hope she trains for a second one!

Either way the marathon did good for her. I hope completing the marathon helps her push through a wall and win her first GS next year.

It's hard not to root for Caroline in anything she does.
It's naive to think the breakup didn't have any affect on her recent upswing at all. Everyone responds to relationships differently. Some people become completely engrossed in the other person and they don't realize that their focus, drive, motivation etc have been affected. When the relationship ends and the immediate hurt has passed, it's like a haze or fog has been lifted and it allows the person to focus their energy somewhere else (a marathon or improving their some aspect of their life).

I don't think it is sexist to say so. It is sexist to say so, if it is said only about girls. It is also
said about guys and therefore it is not sexist.

Besides it is not just not ridiculous, it is actually well founded. After a break-up, people
more often than not suddenly feel a loss of self-worth and so do various things to boost
their self-esteem and in this process, often achieve things that they themselves might not
have envisioned that they are capable of. I believe Caro wanted to do the Marathon
as a result of the break-up and of course, the training for that made her fit and trim
and it helped in her game.

Caro hook up with the right tennis player. She's Serena's pal so she will be meeting all the "A" list stars and getting all the exposure that's out there. Soon she and Serena will have a part in a tv show.

If you missed the interview here is a some of it:

And here you can donate to the kids - until now she's collected over $77000:

https://www.crowdrise.com/carolinew

It's nice that she's friends among the tennis players - if you're friendly and smiling you get that back, so keep on smiling Caroline and we'll always have sunny days.

Venus Williams Pro Debut at the 1994 Bank Of The West Classic - 20 years ago - seems unreal:clap

The tournament was then an indoor event played in the fall and Williams, then 14-years-old, was given a wild card into the event to test her skills against the pros after not playing junior tennis at all, outside of a handful of 10-and-under local tournaments in Southern California.

Venus and Serena in 1994 with their father. Cute girls :)

And here the priceless photo from 2002 with a 12 year old who wasn't out of kindergarten when Venus started. Time goes fast when you think of it.

Aw I really love that article. I remember that time. I remember suddenly Venus was everywhere and there was always an afterthought mention that she had a sister waiting in the wings.

It's been such a joy to watch them grow up and defy expectations. There's so many things about the game that they changed. They kind of showed everyone there's no right way to be a champion. They always did things by their terms and I think a lot of players have since followed their example.

Another sad fact that this article highlights is the rule changes that happened around 1994 and then again even more strict rules right as Serena became a pro. It makes me sad because it really ended the idea of a teenage phenom. Now 20 is considered young. I'll miss the days when we say 18, 17, 16 year olds bursting onto the scene.

I love this quote from Caroline in regards on her end of the year

"You know,I think I've proved to myself that I'm a really strong person and that I can keep improving my game. You know,i'm just really happy that I've learned so much from this year. It's been a very, very meaningful year for me and learningful. Can you say that?"...not technically but it's a great word!

From The Sydney Morning Herald Newspaper...November 1st.

That's the sad part for you. For me the sad part was everyone wanting her to lose, to fail at 14 and actually that is still happening to Serena, people want her to fail so bad.

Not "everyone" wanted her to lose. Hyperbole doesn't help, and certainly doesn't reflect reality.

actually that is still happening to Serena, people want her to fail so bad.

Which "people want her to fail so bad"? I look around here, for example, and see massive support for her. She's not everyone's favorite, but being a fan of another player doesn't automatically equate to wanting Serena to fail.

Exactly Tented. There will always be some people who is against but the mojority is behind and like her for what she is and what she does. Just look at Caroline who is the personality and player she is - also bullied by some of her countrymen and others. Most is just doing it because they envy their success. Not much you can do about that but give them a shrug and say get a life, ignore and get on being positive yourself IMHO

Here they are BTW reunited again those luvly people  at an icehockey match 7 h ago.

I love that Serena has gone back to the dark hair. Does anyone know if she is planning on being at the marathon to cheer her friend on?

Do you ever read those yahoo msg boards and some of the other tennis boards around. Do you ever listen to the commentators? Apparently not. Did you read that article?
